Kevin DOES Mind the Bollocks!

Kevin is looking his punkiest for Johnny Rotten's birthday! I guess he saw Brittany's goth outfit and decided to see if he could one-up her.

Today is also Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, which is every day for Jane...unless she's been painting reproductions again.

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 32): "After placing the suitcase on the bed, Daniel left the guest room. He almost collided with Quinn, who was going to the bathroom."

  • Daria: High School Reunion, by Serrallonga (part 8): "DARIA: (Looking at Tommy, shocked) It was your voice... the day the roof collapsed. TOMMY: Yeah, it was me. DARIA: But... how?"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 26): "Professor Flitwick opened the next folder on his desk and ruffled through the parchments of the next student he was going to interview. Daria Lynn Morgendorffer. Born April 9th, 1979 in Austin, Texas, USA"

  • Hate Actually, by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "'Dude, he's been dancing with Quinn all night!' Jonus complained." (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6)

  • I Don't Know What I Want, but Regardless..., by A_Big_Old_Skeleton (COMPLETE!): "Daria woke up slowly. This was nothing new - Daria never woke up particularly fast - but there was an extra reluctance to the act this morning which felt significant, somehow."

  • Jane The Outlaw (Daria and Quinn), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Daria, Quinn and Jane were in serious trouble."

  • Sympathy for the Sloane, by YouthofOz (part 4): "Upchuck squinted into the dusty air, trying to see what was stirring on the far end of the cellar. Was it a person? Or just a shadow?"

I'd Love to See Him Play Football Dressed Like That!

It's Punk for a Day Day, and Kevin is definitely dressed for the occasion. Not that you need an excuse, but this would be a good day to read (or re-read) Charles RB's God Save The Esteem series. It's more punk than...a lot of punk stuff, I guess. I'm not hip to the lingo.

Today is also the Feast of St. Daria, and while no one would actually call Daria a saint, I'm sure she'll be happy to feast on some pizza and/or cheese fries. Why not join in? It is a sacred day, after all!

Pizza and cheese fries sound like an especially good idea, because this happens to be National Greasy Foods Day on top of everything else. I find it hard to believe that's a coincidence, though. Daria's feast day would have to involve greasy food, wouldn't it?

Never Mind the QB!

It's a big day for punk fans, because today is Johnny Rotten's birthday! In spite of his alter ego, Kevin doesn't strike me as the punk type, but I'm sure Mr. DeMartino would happily call him that...and worse.

Today is also Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, or as Jane calls it, Wednesday. You can celebrate by painting, drawing, sculpting, or whatever else fills your heart with inspiration. You could even write some punk music, but don't let Mystik Spiral perform it.

Ewww, Greasy Punks

Kevin's looking...unusual...for Punk for a Day Day. I can't quite put my finger on it, but he definitely looks different. Maybe it's the new shoulder pads.

Today is also National Greasy Foods Day, so it's basically open season on junk food for Daria and Jane. Cheese fries, extra-greasy pizza, a burger squishing around your toes; go have whatever strikes your fancy!

Never Mind the QB!

Happy birthday to John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, who was born on this day in 1956. He was the lead singer of the punk band the Sex Pistols, which is why Kevin is dressing in classic punk style. Either that or he's trying out a very unorthodox new football strategy that involves distracting your opponents. With punk.

Okay, Then I Won't Mind the Bollocks!

It's Punk for a Day Day! Join the latest fandom craze, as seen in Charles RB's God Save the Esteem series. Kevin's getting into it; why not you?

Today is also the Feast Day of Saints Chrysanthus and Daria. Okay, it's not the same Daria, but it's still kind of cool to say.

Finally, this is World Pasta Day. Enjoy some penne a la pesto before it oxidizes!

Never Mind the Bollocks!

Today is John Joseph Lydon's 55th birthday! You might know him better as Johnny Rotten, the lead singer of the punk band the Sex Pistols. Kevin is punking it up specifically for the occasion.

This birthdate is particularly relevant to Charles RB's God Save the Esteem series, in which Helen, Jake, Quinn, and about 80% of Lawndale are into the punk scene. If you aren't reading it, then you should. Right now. Or else "Killer" Quinn will headbutt you into next week.

For everyone else, here's the fandom news update:

The Woman Who Was W.O.W.

Many of the alter egos for Daria have a musical theme, and this one is one of the more interesting ones. Sandi Griffin is dressed as Wendy O. Williams, born this day 59 years ago. She was the lead singer of the Plasmatics and easily the most outrageous woman in rock, punk or New Wave or otherwise, in the 1970s and '80s. The picture seems to be derived from this photo of the Plasmatics. (Ms. Williams should be easy to pick out.)

It strikes me as odd that Sandi is the one doing the W.O.W. thing, as she would be the polar opposite of the singer in personality. That blouse Sandi is wearing, by the way, is her own, the usual one she wears in the last seasons of Daria. Wendy Williams often went topless in concert except for a couple of strips of black electrical tape (placed exactly where you think they would be). In a way this picture resonates in the same way that alter ego of Stacy Rowe as Dr. Hannibal Lechter works: you just have this feeling that under that shallow, stuck-up fashion-head is a wild beast waiting to be unchained. Or maybe not. You decide.

Interestingly, Wendy Williams's long-time boyfriend in life was Lemmy of Motörhead, and there is an alter ego with Mr. DeMartino as Lemmy, at the MTV website like the Sandi/Wendy pic above. Someone on the art staff with MTV had a very good knowledge of rock music from 20-30 years ago. It certainly shows.

A curious alter ego for a lot of reasons. More to come.
