Long Live the Queen of Sarcasm

Daria reigns supreme as Elizabeth I on the anniversary of the English queen's birth on this day in 1533. Although that looks like the most uncomfortable outfit she's ever worn--and yes, I'm including the bridesmaid's dress--I do give her credit for staying true to her usual color scheme.

Does Kevin know that today is National Beer Lovers Day? If not, someone should let him know so that he can crush cans on his head and sing his favorite song about ninety-nine bottles of beer. I have to admit, I'd be surprised to learn that he can actually count to 100, let alone backwards.

A drink might be a good idea for at least some of the Morgendorffers if either grandmother chooses to celebrate Grandparents' Day today. God help us all if both grandmothers decide to visit on the same day!

God Save the Queen...and Her Hats!

I don't think Daria is enjoying her cosplay for the anniversary of the Coronation of Elizabeth I on this day in 1559. Of course, that might be because she's not wearing her boots and, without those, she just feels naked.

A coronation is also appropriate today because it's National Hat Day! Daria's covered, as long as you consider a crown a type of hat, but Helen will be sitting this one out. She hates the way she looks in hats.

God Save the Queen!

Daria is feeling especially regal on the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I's crowning on this day in 1559. I can't say that she looks very comfortable, though. At least she kept the color theme consistent!

Today is also the anniversary of the very first Super Bowl in 1967. Ever since, great big guys have continued slamming into other great big guys in pursuit of victory.

Time is running out to nominate for the 2019 Daria Fanworks Awards. Please send in your nominations soon!

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 22): "The Zeemobile pulled into the driveway of the Morgendorffer residence and the doors opened. 'Any problems with leaving early?'"

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 30): "Daniel slept deeply that night. The next morning he woke up fresh, rested ... and hungry."

  • Daria Greenwood, by sarcasticsponge (part 1): "A long, black limousine is seen driving slowly to Lawndale. Inside the limo in the back seat sits a sullen young teen girl that goes by the name 'Daria Greenwood'."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (parts 23 and 24): "The dinner ended, and the students began to stand up. 'Ravenclaws, follow us!' said a couple of older students. Daria guessed that they were in their late teens." (Part 24)

  • A family Secret, by RĂ©mi (part 7): "Jake swallowed his mug of coffee in one big gulp, hoping it'd ease his hangover. He had arrived home very late and half-drunk the previous night, with the help of a taxi : he'd have to retrieve the SUV later."

  • Like a Masochist in Newport, by Lady Evil (part 4): "'Now, this is what I call a wedding breakfast.' said Amy between bites of her powdered donut as they drove into town."

  • Same Crap, Different Place (Daria and Quinn), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Daria was sitting at her desk typing away on her computer when the phone rang. She immediately answered. Daria: 'Hello, you've reached the Ninth Circle of Hell, Lady Satan speaking.'"

God Save the Queen of Sarcasm!

Daria looks very uncomfortable on the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I's coronation on this day in 1559. I'm sure Daria would give us all the royal wave (or maybe something less polite) if only she were able to move even the slightest bit.

I hope that crowns count as hats, because today is also National Hat Day. This is probably one of Helen's least favorite holidays, based on her belief that she looks terrible in hats, but if Eric tells her to wear a hat then by God she will wear a hat!

God Save the Cynical Queen!

It was on this day 480 years ago that Queen Elizabeth I was born. Daria, in her alter ego of the English monarch, looks pretty good for being almost half a millennium old.

One of Kevin's favorite anniversaries is also today: the sports channel ESPN was launched on this day in 1979. Although he seems to prefer the Pigskin Channel, I'm sure he at least switches over during the commercial breaks. Gotta keep up with current events, after all.

God Save the Cheerleader!

One of England's most famous monarchs, Queen Elizabeth I, was born on this day in 1533. This would make her 478 if she were alive today, but I'm sure she doesn't look a day over 300. Brittany is posing as the other Queen Elizabeth, who I am assured is a bit younger than that.

In more recent news, the sports channel ESPN debuted on this day in 1979. I'm sure Kevin is glad it did, although he probably prefers the Pigskin Channel. ESPN has an annoying tendency to occasionally broadcast sports that are--gasp--not football!

We Were All Students Once

Today is International Students Day, which has its roots in the Second World War. (Rather shocking story, really.) It would be interesting to see if any cynics we know at Lawndale High ever celebrated this day in unusual ways. Maybe Mr. O'Neill could give out homework assignments for this special day, and shocking things happen as a result. Fanfic, fanfic, fanfic... (Thanks to UU for the image!)

The Elizabethan Era began this day a mere 451 years ago, when Elizabeth I took the throne of England and Ireland. Daria appears as Elizabeth I in the alter ego below, with the Bard of All Bards who flourished in this period: Shakespeare. (Thanks to Pinhead for the images!)

Daria was born this day in 1983, according to one writer's tale: Wildgoose's "Season's End." She lives to be 100 years old.

Modified Julian Day Zero was 151 years ago today. Ah, those crazy Julian Days. I don't understand the concept at all, but it's all over the Internet, so here it is. Do with it as you will.

Time for fanfic!

PPMB
  • Daria: Hunter—The Love Triangle, by Jim North (continued): "Daria!" Quinn called out. "Save us!" "Yes, thank you, Quinn," Daria returned, her eyes never leaving Jamie. "That's exactly what I'm trying to do."
  • Finn Morgendorffer 15: Believers, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 1): “You’re just like your sister,” Mrs. Morris commented. Finn stopped on a dime. “I beg your pardon?” “Your sister, Daria Morgendorffer. She doesn’t participate, sits out in protest. And now she has to make up gym class after school. No wonder you two are related.”
