The Night They Drove Old Outpost Down

Five-plus decades ago today, I was born. Forget that part.

Eight years ago today, out of a clear blue sky, Outpost Daria was shut down for a brief period in an event now called "The (Non-)Foxing of Daria." That was a weird, weird time. Congratulations to Martin J. Pollard for his perseverance in seeing the struggle through to a good end.

Ten years ago this month, Seventeen Magazine ran a one-page article about Daria Morgendorffer's room. Some clever quotes can be picked up from the story, at the link. (I liked the one about studying her sister's brain cells.) This story later inspired a Daria fanfic.

Four years from now, Daria Morgendorffer will arrive on the planet Nest to visit her children, according to Richard Lobinske's SF classic, "Alien Home." At right, Daria's adopted daughter Moonflower is shown playing in traffic during the family's vacation on Earth. We wish Daria and all her repellent curiously formed but fun-loving children the very best.

In the realm of Things to Come, check out this blog note from a highly familiar someone-or-other. Nothing Daria-ish on that blog yet, though we can always hope.

Happy Birthday Weekend! (Isn't that better than 'belated'?) I hope you have whatever type of time you want.
