Don't You Love Winter?

The special magic of wintertime is everywhere, and everyone's favorite duo is freezing out in an unheated shack in the wilderness. What could be more fun than that?

Richard Lobinske is working on a LATIFA story. The teaser is posted here.

PPMB
  • Arrival, by Legendeld (Part 4): “You have to stick to this diet, Quinn.” Jake Morgendorffer said firmly. “And you’re going to stop drinking until it’s not bleeding anymore.”
  • Cry for a Shadow, by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): “I’m.... kind of... dying. Slightly.”
  • Heartless (IC: Evil Jane), by NightGoblyn (continued): This multipart episode is named, "Die, Die My Darling!" for a reason.
  • Hell on Wheels, by Roxanne M (Part 4): Leo Archer tossed and turned in his bed. The thoughts of the Morgendorffer girl lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk haunted his memory.
  • John Lane 38: Yeah, It's Summer, by Richard Lobinske (Part 2): "Note to self, don't piss off your girlfriend."
  • Order and Chaos, by Legendeld (Part 15): Jane groaned loudly and dropped to the ground. “You’re a stone bitch.” Quinn nodded. “And you haven’t quit yet.”
  • Quinndy-Lou Who, by NightGoblyn (Parts 1, 2, and 3): This certainly didn't start the way I had expected! It also has a horrible horrible thing in Chapter 3, which I encourage you not to read, not ever.
  • Stacy Rowe, Seeker (Part II), by jtranser (continued): Contropolis, Kansas, has been described as a flat, arid two-dimensional form of Hell. As Hells go, it is very respectable.
  • Trent's Christmas Gig, by Psychotol (COMPLETE!): Just in time for the holidays!

I did finally finish the update for all 2008 fanfiction on PPMB and SFMB, for your reading pleasure. More soon, just got home.

Updating the Updates Project

Updating the weekly list of new fanfics is a chore, and there apparently isn't time to do it more than once a week, so it isn't very timely for the most part. Still, for now it will be continued here with links, as it does seem to be of help to readers.

Recently I discovered that some of the stories on ff.net were getting missed in my big lists of Daria tales told, so I am at work fixing that. I've updated the 2008 fanfic list for PPMB and SFMB, but not yet for ff.net.

The issue of NC-17 Dariarotica is also on my mind, as far as how to sort it out from other fanfic. My mental rule of thumb at present is that explicit stories will be excluded from my fanfic lists, just because, but they can be picked up for the annual NC-17 list by someone else. It also occurs to me that the annual NC-17 list can include highly suggestive stories as well as explicit ones. If pressed for examples, I would point to "Everybody Loves Jane," "The Misery Chicks," "Fashion Support," and "Touched by Angela Li" as being highly suggestive but not obscene, if that makes any sense. They could go up for the annual Dariarotica award as well as anything else. Lots of stories do the same kind of category crossover. I do recall that "Stacy Rowe, Seeker" contained one or two vignettes that were borderline NC-17, but I let it pass as I am so completely addicted to the series.

So there it is. Feedback on this topic would be welcome. Meanwhile, I'll keep going with the 2008 fanfic update. Cheers!

Starting to wake up now, sort of

PPMB and SFMB have come back up after a day-long hiatus, possibly a server problem. Richard Lobinske, Brother Grimace, and Roentgen have been adding new pages and information to DariaWiki like crazed fiends, bless them, and you are encouraged to check out the new stuff (and add some new stuff yourself, please). An expansion of the "Evil Daria" stub page would be so cool.

Here are a few notes on watt's gnu at SFMB.

Fanfic

Fan Art

Both the rules for voting and the list of nominations for the 2007 Booties: Daria FanWorks Awards, Visual Works, are right here.

PPMB will take time to wade through, so more later. Thank heavens this blog's server isn't down. Yet.

2008 Fanfiction Has Been Updated!

Couldn't think of a good picture to go with this. Just check out the links to the 2008 fanfic lists for PPMB and SFMB in the left column, downwards a ways. Fixes were made to the 2007 lists, too, but nothing critical. The 2008 artwork list was already updated by Richard.

Enjoy.

Crickey! I've got kangaroos loose in the top paddock!

S'trewth, mate! Only 220 years ago today, the Botany Bay Penal Colony was established in Oz, eventually leading to Crocodile Dundee, The Road Warrior, Fosters beer, and a language with remote similarities to English. For complete information on the cultural contributions of the modern-day descendants of the colonists, click here.

In other news tonight . . .

The rules for voting on the 2007 Booties: Daria FanWorks Awards, Written Works, and the updated & corrected list of nominations for the same are available for the clicking. Both the rules for voting and the list of nominations for the 2007 Booties: Daria FanWorks Awards, Visual Works, are right here. The deadline is January 31st, so get goin'!

Richard Lobinske has once again upstaged me by updating the 2008 Visual FanWorks Listing. Check out the cool new stuff! (Still not sure about those buns.)

Brother Grimace is searching for suggestions on the middle names of the Daria characters. Share your ideas in this thread. Note the link in the thread to an older thread on this topic.

Finally, I must touch upon a sad topic. There has been an ugly rumor on PPMB that I have discovered modesty. Let me set the record straight: Nothing could be further from the truth. The Internet is filled with falsehoods and lies, and this is one of them. Thank you for listening.

Can't Sleep? Looking for Something Good to Read?

But . . . Is It Art?

A quick update on new artistic marvels on display on the message boards:
New and continued stories on SFMB have appeared as well.
A Very Large Update of PPMB fanfiction will take place this weekend. So much to read, and it's awesome!

By the way, Ms. Defoe is presented here as a mobile by Alexander Calder, called the greatest sculptor of the 20th century. You've probably seen his work and didn't know it was his.

LATE NOTE: The link to SFBMB, operated by Bliss Ticks, no longer functions and has been removed. Please feel free to let me know if any other links do not work.

Fan Art for 2007 now linked in left column!

If you want to know what great Daria fan art was completed in 2007, you can find links to Richard Lobinske's exhaustive compilation at left. Thank you, Richard.

Speaking of 2007, the fanfiction lists have been updated and, with any luck, completed for that year as well (see links at left). The listing for 2008 will begin soon. (Okay, the listing has begun now!)

Fans of alternate-universe fanfics will be pleased to know that science is still investigating parallel universes. Maybe Daria really is out there somewhere. . . .

Finally, some fun older fics by Patrick Moore (peapotmaster) were reposted to PPMB. Welcome back, Patrick. The stories are:
Daria Meets Johnny Bravo
Stupid is as Stupid Really Does
Snow Darn

More soon.

And now for something completely different....

Little Red Riding O'Neill is going to share some of his basket of goodies with us, fresh from PPMB. Isn't that disturbing? Anyway, here is part one of my fanfiction catch-up list.

Completed Stories (Hooray!):
Apocalyptic Daria, by Doggieboy (version on SFMB)
Canon Fodder, by Roentgen (The funniest part is who plays Daria in FIC. Poignant ending, too.)

Additions to Works in Progress (Hooray!):
Lane Change, by Ranger Thorne
Stacy Rowe, Seeker (Part II), by jtranser
Falling Into College #61: Latitudes, by Richard Lobinske. This is Richard's version of Is It Fall Yet? with the future Daria crew running around on summer vacation while at college, just before Daria and Michael tie the knot next spring. Michael has already kissed another girl, so that means Daria will go to an art colony and meet Alison, and we can't go into what happens next, can we? Should be fun for all. (Need a smiley face here.)

Other Interesting Threads:
What are you working on for 2008? (more stuff here for next year)
Interesting news from Scissors MacGillicutty regarding "Reclamation," by Roentgen. For more news, go to Roentgen/CINCGREEN's blog, in the list at left. Good luck finding it! (That was mean, I know, but kinda fun, too.)

More to come. I apologize ahead of time if your story wasn't mentioned, but as I said, I am way behind and desperately trying to catch up while also cleaning the house. Stay tuned.

"Don't Cry for Me, DeMartino!"

I wanted to add something here for the fans in Argentina, but this was all I had to work with. Hey, at least it's not Madonna, right? Oh, fine, be that way.

On PPMB, there's an interesting thread asking fanfic authors, "What are you working on for 2008?" The responses are fascinating. Next year should produce an awesome crop of fic.

Also, in the Totally Useless Thread file, we have this.

And in the Really Really Bad Jokes file (as if this post wasn't enough), we have this.

More news and ramblings on the way, stay tuned.

"Don't cry for me, DeMartino...."
