Hey, Little QB!

I see Kevin is not only enjoying World Coconut Day but doing so as one of the most appropriate alter egos of all time: Gilligan. Think about it. If the cast of Daria were stranded on an island with Kevin, not only would he punt all of the coconuts but they'd all be dead in about a week.

Speaking of dead, today is also Dead Stacy Rowe Day, a holiday created by The Angst Guy solely to celebrate the many times Stacy has died in fanfic. Poor kid.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Dream, by ladyevil (part 3): "In the forest, the Morgendorffers stood in a circle in a clearing. 'Total isolation!' Jake said with a smile."

  • Feeling Like Home (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "With a smile, Trent hung his new bird feeder on the railing of his porch. It resembled a miniature log cabin, with clear plastic windows to let one see how much seed was left."

  • Getting Out From Under It, by Erin M (COMPLETE!): "Jane looked at Older Jane with skepticism. 'It’s true,' said Older Jane. 'You saw it for yourself. Even four out of the five worst Darias in the multiverse loved us on some level.'" (Part 6)

  • "Two Things are Infinite...", by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Jason insisted that they wait for the pizza to arrive before starting the show. He gathered the two of them in his office as they waited and took a seat behind his desk." (Part 11) (Part 12) (Part 13) (Part 14) (Part 15) (Part 16)

Even Worse, She'll Never Get Those Bloodstains Out of Her Clothes!

Ten years ago today, The Angst Guy created Dead Stacy Rowe Day on this very blog. It never achieved national holiday status, but judging from how badly Stacy tends to be treated in fanfic it seems to have a pretty devoted local following. So, celebrate today by thinking of new ways to make Stacy hyperventilate with fear. Go on, it'll be fun! As long as you aren't Stacy, that is.

Fanfic Update!
  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 5): "Erin checked her watch again. Twenty minutes, was twenty minutes too long to wait? She checked the name at the restaurant, again. Yes, she was in the right places, at the right time. So he was late."

  • Helen's Odyssey (Quinn, Season 5), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Helen is seated at her desk and looks miserable. She's alone with her thoughts.. How did I get to this? My lifelong dream of making partner has turned into a nightmare." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Superiors, by ST91 (parts 12 - 15): "Anyone who knew Robert Ramirez had only good things to say about him. Tall, handsome, muscular, kind, well-mannered. The compliments were wasted on him." (Part 13) (Part 14) (Part 15)

  • The Truth Seeker, by Rémi (parts 8 - 10): "Quinn and Tom are sitting together at a café. They have been talking for a while. Tom : What a story ! Hallucinogenic berries, uh ? Was your sister really trying to get rid of you?" (Part 9) (Part 10)

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Roentgen (part 146): "Sandi had been bombarded with questions regarding the first Legion dinner."

I'm Dead? I Can't be Dead! Oh my God, Whyyyyy?!

Poor Stacy just can't catch a break, especially on Dead Stacy Rowe Day! This holiday was created by The Angst Guy on this very blog, in order to honor the many fanfic deaths of Stacy Rowe. So how many deaths do you count? Enough to make the poor girl cry, I'm sure.

Fanfic Update!
  • Camped Out, by Kristen Bealer (part 3): "'...and then there was that time she boycotted the End-of-Summer campfire by the lake. That was so cool.' Trent drifted awake to find that the clingy girl was chattering away about someone, but he had no idea who or what she was talking about. 'Uh...yeah. Sounds really great.'"

  • Clarity, by Zetor (COMPLETE!): "It's morning and mother and I are eating breakfast together like we always do. Mother never looks away at breakfast anymore. She watches as I swallow my pills, then walks over and puts her fingers in my mouth to make sure I'm not hiding them."

  • Cynic and a Six-String, by fringeperson (part 29): "'You really scared Tom,' Jane noted to Daria the next day at school. There was a smile on her face though, so she clearly found the boy's fear amusing."

  • Me And My Monkey, by Dennis (part 4): "Of course, that was only for the moment. Dave's bullshit was as nothing compared to the grilling I knew I'd face when I called home."

  • Perfect, by CaffeineAddict94 (part 1): "Only his parents could turn an attempt to off himself into a minor familial inconvenience. Oh, it was a blight on the good Sloane name, no doubt but it could and would be handled accordingly."

  • Standstill, by Princess_Pasta (parts 7 and 8): "Helen dashed around the kitchen like a bat out of hell, trying to keep one eye on the stove while she skimmed through a 'simple' recipe. It was proving to be a lot more complicated than she remembered, if the pan she scorched earlier was any indication." (Part 8)

What? I'm Dead? Oh God, WHYYY?!

It's Dead Stacy Rowe Day! I know a handful of authors that probably enjoy this holiday, and at least one that most likely hates it. Still, it's a holiday created by TAG himself and is therefore worth mentioning. The question for all you fanfic writers out there is, how do you plan kill Stacy Rowe today? Quick and painless or slow and agonizing? The possibilities are endless!

A Holiday to Get Carrie'd Away Over

The first day after Labor Day is always Dead Stacy Rowe Day, thanks to this legendary fanfic by Angelinhel. Hooray for Dead Stacy Rowe Day! Please write a fanfic on this topic to celebrate.

Stacy is on the left in her traditional "Carrie" costume (with obligatory pig's blood), after the climactic scene from the 1976 movie (at right) based on the 1974 Stephen King novel. Makes you wonder what happened a few seconds after Stacy got splashed....

A Guilty Aside: I admit that I really like tracking down the origins of the alter egos that appeared on Daria. Hope you don't mind, but it's terrific fun. Mind game thing.

Today is also the 43rd anniversary of the premiere of the first Star Trek TV episode ever. This allowed Daria to have someone to make fun of (i.e., Trekkies). If you are a Trekkie, don't worry, there's always help available somewhere.

And it is also International Literacy Day, which Daria would always find a way to celebrate by reading a book. Splendid idea. Read a book, why don't you (Carrie is good!), but write your Dead Stacy Rowe Day story first.

Richard Lobinske has once again updated his 2009 Daria Visual Fanworks List! And I have not yet done the same for 2009 fanfic, but it is on my calendar for very soon. Moar 2 com.

BREAKING ART NOOZ: Pinkminx's latest update on "Jane - My Style" is available by link on PPMB. And Her Awesomeness Hershey-chan is back with more 'shipper artwork! Her latest is... real good! (I won't spoil it.)

  • Pigskin Caduceus, by HolyGrail2007 (Parts 11 and 12): “What the hell were you doing on the bridge, dude?” Joey asked. Good question, I thought. I couldn’t look at the two of them. I still felt deeply ashamed of what Daria had revealed to me, that I thought they had abandoned me. I thought little of them, and here they were, saving my life. After all they had done for me, they deserved to know the truth. (PPMB)

  • Falling Into College 70: Is It The Future, Yet? by Richard Lobinske (Part 1): "Don't give me any crap about not being patriotic, you whiny-assed, testicularly challenged pile of road-kill opossum that a starving pig wouldn't touch! You feeling threatened by a woman speaking the truth on stage doesn't make her wrong. It shows how much of a useless excuse of a Y chromosome you are!"

Let's Celebrate Dead Stacy Rowe Day!

Today is a new holiday that I have created all by myself. I call it Dead Stacy Rowe Day. It celebrates all of the Daria fanfic in which the human doormat, Stacy Rowe, dies, which I think everyone will agree is worth a cheer or two.

Now why, you ask, did I pick this particular date? It happens to be the day after Labor Day, the date on which one of the most famous Dead Stacy Rowe stories takes place: Angelinhel's "Crimson Sunset." Click the link and enjoy.

While you're at it, here are some of the other fine Dead Stacy Rowe stories that have been offered to Daria fandom over the years.

Do you think there are enough Dead Stacy Rowe stories? I don't. Write some more, everyone! Contribute to the overflowing warehouse of beloved Dead Stacy Rowe lore. Thank you for listening.

P.S. The alter ego is of Stacy Rowe as a Keane girl. She looks so cute, you just want to put her in your pocket, take her home, and throw her in a vat of acid! Such fun!

ATTENTION: This is a humor article. It is meant to be humorous. Do not attempt to throw anyone living who is named Stacy Rowe into a vat of acid. I am talking only about the cartoon character, who deserves it.

In other news, Legendeld talks about creating original Daria characters, and breitasparrow shows three of the funniest "home movies" of Daria characters ever, thanks to Sims!

  • Sometimes It Rains, by legendeld (Part 6): "I come over to see how your makeup work was going and find you dying.”
