What About Pierced Brains?

Daria has already celebrated National Piercing Day, but it remains to be seen if she keeps the piercing this time or not. If you've been wanting to get pierced, then today's the day. Dare you to get your not-uvula done!

For those who aren't into self-perforation, you could participate in National Learn to Swim Day instead. Unless you already know how to swim, I suppose, in which case I guess you should swim, you cow! Swim! Sorry. Coach talk.

On this day in 1999, The New York Times published "'Daria': In Praise of the Most Unpopular Girl at Lawndale." Check it out for a bit of nostalgia from the show's early days.

Someone Make Sure Lindy Celebrates This One!

Jesse has clearly missed the entire point of National Sober Day, but in his defense it isn't the first thing to fly right over his head. Jake might want to celebrate this one, as we know how badly things go if he has too many martinis...or too much sake, for that matter.

At the very least he shouldn't drink on an empty stomach, and what better choice than a sweet pastry for National Cream-Filled Donut Day? Jane and Daria could meet up at Do Me a Donut and figure out which of them is the more twisted little cruller.

In fandom history news, Daria appeared in an issue of "People Weekly" on this day in 1998 in order to judge the best and worst dressed people of the year. While "fashion" isn't the first thing you'd think of with Daria, judging is definitely quite on brand for her.

Fanfic Update!
  • Heavenly wine and roses, by riotsquirrrl (part 3): "The alarm beeps and Daria hits snooze four times before Helen opens the door to her room. A look of concern crosses her face."

  • Homecoming, by davidfalkayn (part 31): "'So...where’s your mother and the brats, Sandi?' Quinn asked, her eyes scanning the room as she and her fellow Fashion Club member sat on the sofa watching a 'Lawndale’s Top Model' marathon on the television."

  • The Memorial Dance Incident, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "It was an ordinary day at Lawndale High School. Brittany Taylor was bored. Just painting what one saw wasn’t interesting. She preferred it if it was more interesting."

  • Reverse the Chase, by BracedRhombus (part 8): "'Who can tell me the answer to question five?' asked Mr. Aldridge. Charlene's hand shot up like a rocket."

  • Spider Quinn 12 Rise of the Green Goblin, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Norman Osborn threw aside the latest Sun-Herald in disgust. More reports of crime that hadn’t been foiled by SpiderGirl or those two new vigilantes."

Has Anyone Even Watered It Lately?

Looks like the Morgendorffers' houseplant is not feeling very appreciated for International Plant Appreciation Day, but that might be because (as far as I remember) it's their only plant. Have they considered planting a memorial crutch and seeing what happens? Don't forget to take the rubber thing off the end first!

While they wait for a magic flower to sprout, they could play a nice board game in honor of Scrabble Day! Daria will most likely beat everyone handily, but bonus points if she manages to use the word "indemnification."

In distant media news, Daria sat down for an interview with the Sunday Examiner & Chronicle on this day in 1997. Check it out for some very Daria-esque quips and Jane's "New Kids on the Block" T-shirt!

Half Price Candy Sounds Good To Me!

Don't look now, Daria, but you're about to involuntarily celebrate Singles Awareness Day. If it's any comfort, it won't be long before she and Tom make Jane celebrate Singles Awareness Day.

Honestly, I think Daria would be better off taking her own advice from "What I Think About Valentine's Day," which appeared in the Huffington Post on this day in 2012. That is, she should go get herself some of that sweet discounted chocolate.

On this day in 1999, "Daria Day 99" aired on MTV to kick off the third season. I don't think there was anything about dating or chocolate involved, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there about the event, so who knows?

Fanfic Update!
  • Avatar The Drama of Daria, by psychotol (part 12): "'Barch?' The science teacher turned around to see Daria stood behind her in the hallway as students walked past them to their classes holding a clamp folder and a large ziplock bag containing the envelope her homework assignment was in with appropriate hazard warnings on it."

  • The Betrothed, by easmith (parts 11 and 12): "Cynthia lay wide awake in her small, solitary room down in the Depths. She could not have guessed the hour, unaware even if the Sun had yet managed to rise or if the outer world still slumbered in darkness." (Part 12)

  • Complex College Mating Rituals as a Distraction from the Brutality of Boston Winter, by elle_stone (COMPLETE!): "'Complex college mating rituals as a distraction from the brutality of Boston winter,' Daria answers."

  • Homecoming, by DavidFalkayn (part 1): "One of the Q, taking on the form of a young woman with blonde hair and fair skin, approached Q as he gazed at the endless universes."

  • Southern Fried Carbones, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, her husband and their kids are in New Orleans for Mardi Gras."

  • Spider Quinn 06: The Lawndale Files, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Helen opened the door. 'Hello, Elisabeth. Stacy will be down shortly.'"

  • This is Not America, by ladyevil (part 5): "'Looks like they’ve split up.' Daria noted. 'Darn.' Jane said. 'That means we can’t watch them.'"

  • Titanic - A True Story, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 24 - 26): "So far, everyone kept following orders and the crazy situation still remained largely under control." (Part 25) (Part 26)

Donut Forget to Say "Cheese!"

Junk food lovers, rejoice! Today is National Cream-Filled Donut Day and all of our sweet tooths will be satisfied! If cream filling isn't your thing, then you could follow Daria's example and have a twisted little cruller instead.

Don't forget to smile, though, because it's also National School Pictures Day. I know we aren't supposed to smile unless we have a reason, but a donut is reason enough for me to smile. Can I recommend "Clouds Over Chernobyl" for a photo background?

Finally, it was on this day in 1998 that People Weekly gave Daria the opportunity to judge the best and worst dressed people of 1998. If being allowed free rein to snark about famous people didn't put a smile on her face, then seeing the faces of the Fashion Club upon learning she'd stolen their dream job certainly would have done the trick!

What's a Good Synonym for Magazine?

Daria's just looking back at the feature article about her in Animation Magazine that appeared on this day in 2002. In it, Glenn Eichler discussed some of his thoughts on Is It College Yet? and the end of the series as a whole.

Go For the Triple Word Score!

I don't know what game the Morgendorffers are playing, but it's unlikely to be Scrabble for Scrabble Day. The board is all wonky! Of course, maybe the animators did it that way on purpose to avoid copyright issues?

On this day in 1997, The Sunday Examiner & Chronicle: Parade published an interview with Daria. It's one of the earliest media features, and contains all the snark and one-liners you'd expect!

Only You Can Prevent Kitchen Fires!

Jake is clearly not off to a good start for Fire Prevention Day, but the good news is that he gets another nice, relaxing stay at a hotel. Right up until Quinn screws something up again. Which should be any minute.

Today is also the day Entertainment Weekly declared Daria a toon diva in 1998, a title she shared with Tinkerbell, Veronica, and...Foghorn Leghorn? You got me.

Fanfic Update!
  • Bringing Light to a Black Day, by Anonymous (COMPLETE!): "Daria had to give it up for her dad’s ineptitude when it came to home repairs; due to his attempts to increase the temperature on the hot water heater somehow breaking it completely, in spite of the fact that all he’d needed to do was turn one knob, she had the house all to herself until the plumber could get there the next day."

Moth to a Flame!

Trent is featured here as the firefighter least likely to inspire confidence on Fire Prevention Day, but at least he's awake this time. Chances are he's here to put out a fire at his own house if anyone forgot that rule about not building a fire in the rooms that don't have fireplaces.

Also on this day in 1998, Daria was named a "toon diva" in Entertainment Weekly. I think that's the first and only time Daria was referred to as any kind of diva.

Here, Kitty Kitty GAHHH!!!

Jake thinks he's wishing Mr. Whiskers a happy International Cat Day, but he's really just moments away from the worst claw attack of his life. If you have a cat (or cats), give them an extra snuggle or just leave them alone, which they'd probably enjoy more.

Also, on this day in 2008, Daria revealed her greatest retail regret to Racked. Read the interview and see the original artwork!

Fanfic Update!
  • The Cause (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by OzFerret (part 1): "Daria looked around the room, taking in the faces of each of her compatriots. 'You all know why we are here tonight?' Daria asked. Everyone nodded. Daria's expression was rarely considered cheerful, but tonight she looked grim."

  • Chuck And Stacy: An Unlikely Love Story, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Charles Ruttheimer the Third was positioned at the entrance to the Lawndale Mall. He was trying to wow passerby with his magic act. He was calling himself Charles The Prestidgitator. He had to admit the name was lame but it was all he could come up with so he went with it."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 7): "'DeMartino !?' asked Jake. 'Yes.' Daniel replied. 'Crazy Eye DeMartino !?' asked Jake again. 'That's what he said.'"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (parts 2 - 4): "Daria joined her first potion-making class a week later. It was held at Mrs. Ocampo's, but not in her home. Instead it was held in a building behind it." (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • First One Out of the Pan, by EntrancedCat (part 3): "Next morning, Daria heard a commotion in the garage indicating that at least her father was home. She got up from her spot under the window to open the access door."

  • In The Year 2019, by JAS (COMPLETE!): "First thing Daria became aware of when she woke up, was the headache. Next thing was that her mouth was dry and tasted like something died there."

  • Pack Mentality, by atiyatortilla (part 3): "It wasn't easy being a seventeen year old girl, especially when you had a horrible secret."

  • The Pilgrim's Inertia, by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Daria awoke with her entire body feeling like an enormous ache covered in dirt. At this point, she'd have been happy to deal with mom's judgmental aura if it meant a soft bed and warm food." (Part 5) (Part 6)

  • Rowe And Moreno: Taking The "C-Bus", by DIsaac (part 3): "DANI: STOP! That is NOT what happened! STACY: I'm improving the story! DANI: BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED AT ALL! "

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by RĂ©mi (part 17): "Morgendorffer household. Daria is answering the phone. Daria (monotone voice) : Daria Morgendorffer speaking. Helen's voice : Hi, Daria ! I'm glad to reach you at last. I've been waiting for fresh news of Quinn and you for a while. Seriously, it wouldn't kill you to call your parents from time to time."

  • They Never Sleep (Daria and the Gang), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'Do you really think this is a good idea, Jane?' Daria and Jane walked into the laboratory where Daria worked as a part-time cryogenecist. She had a newly-minted master's degree from Raft University with a specialty in biology and cryogenics."

And If You Spill It, Don't Cry!

It's World Milk Day, so Jake is chugging for everything he's worth. One might argue that that isn't much, but I'm not going to. Why stress the poor guy out right after he's finished some nice, calming milk?

On this day in 1997, Daria was featured in the Washington Post. If you've never read it, check it out for some interesting trivia and early speculation on Daria's future from Glenn Eichler.

Fanfic Update!
  • Beach Daze, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Daria and Jane are at their usual table celebrating the end of the school year. Jane: 'Ah, summer! Just think, no more pencils, no more books, no more DeMartino's psychotic looks!'"

  • Changing Janes (Iron Chef: Send in the Clones), by YouthofOz (COMPLETE!): "Jane sighed and put down the paintbrush. She went to the front door and answered it. 'Oh, it's you,' she said, not bothering to feign enthusiasm."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 67): "Ellen Bowden had now settled into her new job and had largely settled into her new digs: a 'mother-in-law' house behind an older witch's house southwest of Abilene. Her probationary period had ended and she began to feel that she was at last a professional doing social work for MACUSA."

  • Daria's Great Adventure, by dmsfanman (part 25): "A door came down over the entrance to the room. It was immediately accompanied by a 'whooshing' sound that everyone could hear."

  • On The Outside Looking In (Iron Chef: Send in the Clones), by YouthofOz (COMPLETE!): "Sandi Griffin refused to look self-conscious in the stupid and unflattering surgical gown as she followed the white-coated medical guy towards the waiting room."

  • Quinn Got In The Car, by Lady Evil (part 5): "It was another day at the Okay to Cry Corral. It was lanyard making day. The kids really wanted to go swimming but O'Neil was afraid of algae blooms. That suited Daria fine."

  • Skin Deep, by Kristen Bealer (parts 2 and 3): "Daria was only vaguely aware of what direction she was running in. Everything was dim and fuzzy, disconnected from her thoughts as she fled in terror." (Part 3)

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by RĂ©mi (part 11): "Morgendorffer household, living room. Quinn is excitedly telling her afternoon to Daria. Quinn : After that, Jane didn't want me to leave anymore. Then we had this long, meaningful talk about art and feelings and stuff... It was great : I never had a talk like this with the Fashion Club. • Todd's Life Lottery (Odds and Ends), by LSM (part 1): "You have a few advantages before you are born. You are born the United States in 1976. Your parents are white, Italian Americans to be precise, in a time when that wouldn't get you killed for anarchism or being suspected Mafia members."

Talk About Your Hidden Talents!

I don't know what to say about Mr. DeMartino's new look. I mean, he's actually smiling. Weird. But maybe that's to be expected when he's pretending to be Liberace on the 100th anniversary of the musician's birth. As for the clothes, well, no one said that he was going to use that raise wisely.

Meanwhile, on this day twenty years ago, an article praising Daria appeared in the The New York Times. For an outcast, Daria sure turned out to be popular.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 6): "The next morning Jake dropped her off in front of the massive, industrial-looking brick building. Daria stared at the nameplates beside the door, before pressing the button for Lane."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 65): "Daria squirmed in her chair in the school auditorium as Principal Trimble droned on. A recent pair of suicides at Highland's middle school had caused the school board to mandate mandatory classes for dealing with bullies and bullying: both teachers and students were required to attend."

  • Getting By, by EntrancedCat (part 2): "'Sandi! Stacy!' Quinn Morgendorffer skipped in joy as she saw her two best friends at the bottom of Lawndale Lane High's steps."

  • Monster Blood 4.5 (Iron Chef: Reader Beware, You're In For A Scare), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "A normal teenager might find it bizarre, disturbing even, when they found a can of blue goo and it turned into a strange blobby creature. Kevin, however, found it 'cool' and named the blob Lombardo, after Vince Lombardi."

Two Eyes Good, Four Eyes Better!

Daria's going to settle in with a childhood favorite on the anniversary of the publication of Animal Farm on this day in 1945. That is, she will if her fellow Grizzlies will back off on the watermelon games and horseback rides long enough for her to read it.

Also, on this day in 1997, Daria was featured in the The Chicago Tribune. It gives some interesting background into the development of the show, although Daria might take issue with her description as "Beavis and Butt-head's only female friend." Friend...is not the word I would have gone with.

Fanfic Update!
  • Bobbie Caller, by Meester_Lee (parts 2 and 3): "Daria looked out her bedroom the next morning and saw that it was raining and windy. After she got dressed and went downstairs and opened the front door, she saw that it was not only rainy and windy, but chilly, too. Daria got on the phone before breakfast and told Jane that she'd get her parents to pick her up on the way to school." (Part 3)

  • Harry Potter Morgendorffer, by Meester_Lee (parts 24 and 25): "Albus Dumbledore's Monday was not going as he'd expected. True, he had expected to be busy. As the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he had expected to cope with the minutiae of running one of the foremost schools of witchcraft and wizardry in Europe, and the only such school of its size and import in Britain." (Part 25)

  • I am not a good friend, by Wassersauefer (COMPLETE!): "Whenever Kevin saw Mack, the first thing that came to mind was the words of his dad."

  • In the woods, no one will hear her scream, by RĂ©mi (COMPLETE!): "Daria and Quinn are in their tent at night. Quinn : Daria ? Daria give Quinn an interrogative look. Quinn : Do you feel weird sharing a tent ?" (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • It really makes you sink, by RĂ©mi (part 1): "Daria's room. Daria is sitting on her bed, looking awfully depressed. She has dried tear streaks on her cheeks. She is cradling a pink baby-T in her arms and sadly looking at the yellow smiley face."

  • Second Chance for Love, by David Falkayn (part 20): "'You sure no one's home?' Angie asked as Elizaveta led her by the hand into the Morgendorffer house. 'Yes, szereto.'"

  • Superiors, by ST91 (parts 5 and 6): "General Rogers was already awake by an hour when the alarm sounded at 6:00 am. Yet he had decided to stay in bed to save his strength." (Part 6)

  • The Wrath of Con, by Lady Evil (part 20): "Danny woke up Sunday to a sound he never thought he'd ever hear. Jesse was screaming."

  • Wreckonciliation (Quinn, Season 5), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Quinn is at her desk going through her mail. She frowns as she looks at it. Quinn: (Thought VO) Homemaker Magazine...mine. Getting In Over Her Head

Jodie is having fun portraying the late swimmer and actress Esther Williams, who was born on this day in 1921. Either that or her parents found yet another activity to drag her into and the girl has just completely snapped.

Also, on this day in 2011, Racked published an "interview" with Daria: Daria Morgendorffer's Greatest Retail Regret, Plus a Brand-New Original Never-Before-Seen Daria Portrait. It's...an interesting look for Our Heroine.

Fanfic Update!
  • A.R.C Chapter 10 Imprisoned, by ST91 (part 1): "Getting out from the white car Daria almost forgot to say bye to Andrea and Jane and to thank Mrs. Ruttheimer for taking her home. Yet it was understandable, the last hours had been an emotional rollercost for her."

  • Drake And Jane Diaries, by James the Lesser (part 2): "Yo, Journal I love art, and there is a competition. Drake said he'd help me with it."

  • Dylan, by J-D (part 36b): "Dylan was glad that Tracey didn't try to make small talk. She concentrated on the driving. Tracey also seemed to have the sour attitude to life in general that he appreciated. He was almost feeling relaxed, for the first time since Rod called."

  • Rude Awakening #14: And she was gone...., by DIsaac (part 2): "(WHUB Studios) [Interior-DAY] (Mack is hosting his Saturday Afternoon Shift when Jodie comes in) MACK: All right, we got some new stuff form Portugal, The Man, LCD Soundsystem and how about I put in a double play of Nine Inch Nails for ya. That is all next on WHUB 98.5. The Alternate for New England."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef : MMORPG, Lawndale style), by Waylander (part 22): "The way he talked about quitting... I hope I'm wrong. Darlene decided to do something uncharacteristic for her real-life counterpart – to seek out Singh and warn him."

  • Unnamed story (World's Shortest Crossover, Part XIV: The Crossover Awakens!), by Wraith (COMPLETE!): "I've got the music. Currently I'm running to the not-so-fast-paced song, 'Heathens' by twenty one pilots. I love it."

Gah With the Wind

Jake is looking good as the late actor Clark Gable, who was born on this day in 1901. I know the beard didn't work out, but maybe Jake should consider a mustache. It's actually not a bad look for him!

The February 1999 issue of Teen People awarded the Readers' Choice Award for "Killer Cartoon" to Daria. It might not seem like a huge honor, but neither was Daria's acceptance speech: "At last, the teen stardom I have craved for so long! I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DiCaprio."

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: No Country For Unpleasant Old Men, by Meester_Lee (parts 5a and 5b): "'Where to next?' asked Iago. 'Whirlwind Drive,' said Arcturus. 'Time to have another go at it.'" (Part 5b)

  • This is my stop, by Honey-On-Toast (part 6): "Entering into the Lane household, Daria felt some sort of chill. Someone walking on her grave. As she was about to follow Jane up, she saw a familiar face, a scruffy hair-cut and ragged clothing."

Fanfic Update!
  • Dylan, by J-D (part 17a): "When Rod had shut the front door behind him, Dylan went through to the kitchen. His parents were both taking a pull at their respective drinks, so Kris spoke first. 'Cousin Edwin's getting married. Twenty-one's too young to be fitted with a ball and chain.'"

  • Glasses and Lipstick (chapter 3), by oni (part 1): "As she came to a stoplight, Linda saw something a little further down the street on the left side. Sitting in the front parking lot of one of the town's cheap motels, was Jake's car."

  • Guilt, by PrecambrianStudios (COMPLETE!): "'Oh boy kiddos! Can you believe it! Berlin!' Jake cried joyously to the night, as various Germans stared at him like he was a lost puppy. 'I can't wait to try out the jelly doughnuts!'"

  • Love at the Time of Cynicism (Iron Chef: Throughout The Ages), by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "Daria Morgendorffer walked disconsolately in the park of Liverpool. She had just learned that her father had been planning, for a long time, her betrothal. It's not fair, she thought as she walked through the trees, it is not right. What right do they have to decide my life?"

  • The Mageborn Cynic : Daria & the School of Magic : Part 2, by peetz5050 (COMPLETE!): "By the time Chancellor Li had summoned the town council and leading Guildsmen to a meeting to report on the true events of the day it was really too late. The story had stretched and grown until it bore little or no relationship to the facts. One word was now spoken not just with awe but with abject terror: Hellsbane!"

  • The Mageborn Cynic : Daria & the School of Magic : Part 3, by peetz5050 (part 1): "It was their captain, the kinetic, that interested her though. He was her classmate, Michael (Mack) of Clan Mackenzie. He was also one of the students earmarked for her to give special instruction to, a potential archmage. He did indeed have some skill."

  • RA Holiday Special : The Holidays are just Crazy!, by DIsaac (part 12): "DANI: OK, she has officially lost her ever loving mind! JUDY: Strangely, this isn't the worst. You should have seen her after that Brett Strand guy broke up with her. (Car speeds up again) DANI: (nervously) Stacy, this isn't NASCAR. STACY: Sorry, but the daily allowance of f**ks that I give has been reached for the day. Try again tomorrow."

  • The Ravaged Land, by PrecambrianStudios (parts 1 and 2): "Either the pilot really sucks, or something was in the complimentary soda, Daria thought as she sat down next to Jake in the plane seat. She looked out the window: fog obscured any possible view of the ground." (Part 2)

  • Sonoma Coma, by jtranser (part 4): "'O.K., Jane, it starts out the usual way: selected members of our faculty interview promising applicants interested in Dream Psychology and push the Breede experience for all its worth. The kids ask us all the usual earnest generic questions about our department which we answer with profound sounding wordlike noises. After 15 minutes of such scripted reassurance, It's our turn to ask the questions and decide if they're going to get in.'"

What Does the "M" Stand for, Again?

Today is the anniversary of MTV's debut in 1981, which is really only noteworthy because of the connection to Daria. And considering how they tended to treat the show, I'm not even sure it counts! Still, in 2001 (MTV's 20th anniversary) there were a number of relevant Daria references in the media. So there's that.

Fanfic Update!
  • The 180 Degree Turn Ch. 1: New Page, but Same Book, by Walter Kovacs (COMPLETE!): "'Oh? How are these neighbors?' asked Kay, who was both curious about the neighbors and pleased that Elsie actually gave a halfway decent answer to her family meeting questions for once. 'They actually seem like decent people and are a family that is functional. That's pretty rare here in Lawndale' replied Elsie."

  • Armored Cynic Daria, Episode 2: The 8th Circuit, by RX-87 (COMPLETE!): "LI: I really don't understand what this constant sarcasm is supposed to be in aid of. Especially when I'm the only one who can get you out of here. DARIA: Gonna let me borrow a nail file? LI: I'm here to offer you a job. DARIA: What?"

  • Chunky Monkey (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "They heard the car approach before they saw it, and they saw the sparks and smoke first before the car since it was scrapping the pavement since there was some sort of large thing inside it..."

  • Daria & Son 3: Freakin' Friends Redux, by Erin M. (part 2): "THAD: Mark? Buddy? You okay? Mark doesn't respond. Thad frowns and shakes Mark by the shoulders. THAD: Mark? Mark looks up, but not at Thad and then in a very familiar tone of voice... MARK: I gotta go."

  • Daria & Veronica (Iron Chef: Fresh takes on Veronica Morgendorffer), by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "Daria was seven years old and she was being babysat in her home by her aunt Amy because her parents, Jake and Helen, had to bring little Quinn to the doctor. Amy asked her niece, 'Daria I have to go to the bathroom, can you look after Veronica for a few minutes?'"

  • Dylan, by J-D (part 7a): "'I seem to be alone, Mr Storch, as usual. That’s okay, though, I can still do the assignment. I work just fine by myself.' Dylan dropped his voice. 'In fact I prefer it—and so does everybody else.'"

  • Ethan Yeager in Lawndale: Ch 9 Soaking Up Summer, by Shiva (part 7): "Daria’s smile just grew bigger and bigger as her Mother rushed out of the room to get her cellphone off the charger. Quinn wouldn’t know what hit her."

  • Evicted (Scenes That Should Be: Breakfast of Zombie Champions), by breitasparrow (parts 1 and 2): "He walked up to a lady wearing a black skirt and green jacket under her Wal-Mart apron and gently tugged on her skirt to get her attention. The lady turned around. 'Can I help you with anything, sir?' she said in her signature deadpan tone. 'Oh my god,' Stan said. 'It is you!'" (Part 2)

  • Getting Acclimated, by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Attention STUdents!' the older man said with his right eyeball bulging out at random, 'We have two NEW additions to the class, and since they're from GROVE Hills it is my SINcere hope that they are a CUT ABOVE the rest of you lazy SLACkers.'"

  • The Hunter Home from the Hill, by DeacBlue (parts 15 and 16): "Helen sat still, her jaw almost literally dropping. Finally, she got control of herself. 'To say that what you've told me is fantastic is an understatement of epic proportions.' She shook her head. 'Your body language tells me that you're speaking the truth, but I've been fooled before. Not often,' she said with a grin." (Part 16)

  • Ignominious Minds (Iron Chef: Those Who Didn't, Teach), by ticknart (COMPLETE!): "The first period class was reading The Red Badge of Courage. She skimmed the notes and sighed. The man had actually written for her to mention the Cowardly Lion. 'Of all the schools in all the counties I could have been a sub at, it had to be this one,' she said."

  • Immortal Blood, by Shiva (part 9): "Once the lad’s eyes were firmly shut, the ancient being felt the power swell within him and his mind filled with the image of where he wanted to take them both. • A Resentful Cynic Ch.4 : Revenge of the Malled, by ST91 (part 6): "Jodie said, 'I'm fine, thanks Charles. I'm sorry to bother you while you're eating, Daria...' 'Don’t worry, I've almost finished.' Daria said, putting aside her pizza. 'Thanks, I just wanted to ask you if your offer is still valid.'"

  • Sam and Link's Freshman Year (Scenes That Should Be: Breakfast of Zombie Champions), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Sam then slowed down so Link could catch up and just when they came in sight of Lawndale High they both stopped dead in their tracks. Link took a very deep breath and then with great deliberation slowly moved his hand and held it out, Sam took it into his own and smiled with pride and just a touch of fear."

  • Unexpected Hookup: Underneath It All, by Shiva (part 3): "'I wonder what horrors await,' Daria said in mocking sing-song, 'Besides the mystery meat.' 'But that meat can’t be beat for a special treat!' Jane sang right along, making words up on the spot. Ronnie just laughed and said, 'You guys are the best kind of weird.'"
