Bonus Points for the Kilt, Though

I see Joey is enjoying Bagpipe Appreciation Day, but I hope he isn't intending to impress Quinn with those. Bagpipes played well can be lovely, but played by a beginner...well...not so much.

Today is also Threading the Needle Day, so go help Jake out with his mending and piss off a camel at the same time.

Hot Enough for Cowboys

Helen is making sure everyone knows that today is Hot Enough For Ya Day, in the most direct way possible. Considering the Daria fandom has a segment of very ardent Helen admirers, this holiday may have a double meaning! On a serious note, to those in harm's way due to the latest heat waves, please stay safe.

Today is also National Day of the Cowboy, so if you see Travis hitchhiking on the side of the road be sure to swerve in his direction. Or pick him up, if you feel like you aren't annoyed enough yet.

Fanfic Update!
  • Business Boom, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Jim Carbone is walking through the aisles of Wal Mart. He's trying to find the electronics section."

  • Business Boom, The Aftermath, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Tom is seated at his desk doing some work despite the fact that it's Saturday. He hears a distant sound of thunder."

  • The Geek's Expose, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (part 4): "In between classes, Mr. O'Neill took Daria aside. 'Why me?' Daria wondered."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 33): "So far from Somewhere Else and Layndale, back in Earth and so deep into the wildest forests in all of Pennsylvania, Daria Morgendorffer just could not stop thinking about her sister Quinn as she slowly tried to drink all of her coffee."

  • How Jodie Spent Her Summer Vacation, by Kristen Bealer (part 2): "Walking inside, Jodie almost walked back out as the lights and noise immediately assaulted her senses. Many of the games were already in use, but her attention was quickly drawn to a large virtual reality simulator featured prominently in the middle of the arcade."

  • Reborn: The Origin Story Of Burnout Girl, by radiofox (part 1): "I opened my eyes for the first time in god knows when, everything felt so... rushed. I couldn't place a finger on it; till I realized I was being reborn."

Mmm...Processed Chemicals....

Looks like Tom's in trouble again, and all because he just couldn't resist celebrating National Junk Food Day. I feel like a guy with as much money as he's got could afford to just keep a stockpile of snacks on hand, couldn't he?

Today is also the anniversary of both episodes "The Misery Chick" in 1997 and "Jake of Hearts" in 1999. Tommy Sherman died in one and Jake had a brush with death in the other. And in both, Daria has to deal with people pestering her even more than usual. Death sucks when you're an introvert.

Nyah!

Amy's got the right idea for Stick Out Your Tongue Day, but I don't think your niece's wedding is the most appropriate place to celebrate. Then again, any wedding should have at least a little bit of silliness thrown in!

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Groped by an Angel," which aired on this day in 2000. I have no way to verify this, but I'm almost certain Quinn's guardian angel stuck its tongue out at her at least a few times.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by Lady Evil (part 7): "'Well, that was 18 holes.' Jake said, wiping his brow."

  • Book Burner, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, Jim and the triplets are watching the evening news. On the TV is Stacy. She's standing in front of the burned down ruins of the Kilmer Library." (Part 3)

  • By The Way I Push You Away, by Spikesnifty09 (COMPLETE!): "Daria was leaning against the vending machine. She was waiting for Jane to get out of Art Club."

  • Daria Agere, by Spikesnifty09 (parts 1 - 8): "Daria sat in her box, colouring book on the floor and Meow, the stuffed cat in hand."

  • Fates Entwined, by DeepMetal (COMPLETE!): "And so it began. After four years of high school, Daria was finally where she wanted to be, in college."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 32): "Lockie Allyngard was still quite cold, sleepy and sickened as she crawled her way out of that orange couch, her white and gray blankets slid to the wooden floor slowly, that heavy door upstairs was closed and locked so fast and after that there was nothing but silence."

  • How Jodie Spent Her Summer Vacation, by Kristen Bealer (part 1): "Jodie took a deep breath and entered the den. Here goes nothing, she thought. Literally. "

  • I miss you more than I anticipated, by ThePanicPancake (COMPLETE!): "Daria sat her state of yard ass on the couch taking a short rest break from studying."

I think Jake has taken National Tattoo Day a little too far, but I salute him for his surprisingly high pain threshold. I shudder to think how Helen is going to react when she sees him.

Old MacDonald's Got His Hands Full Today!

Looks like at least someone is having a pleasant Cow Appreciation Day...or at least she is until Roger the Skydiver falls on her. Poor cow.

In case that wasn't enough attention for farm animals, today is also Celebration of the Horse Day. Considering Daria has had nothing but bad experiences with horses, I think she'll be sitting this one out.

As a side note, this is the 4,000th post of this blog! Wow. That's a lot of bad jokes and fandom updates!

Fanfic Update!
  • Book Burner, by wilddogjj (part 1): "Nine-year-old Teddy Carbone is walking to the check-out desk with several books."

  • Daria on the Trail, by Meester_Lee (parts 9 - 12): "Daria had difficulty getting to sleep that evening. Despite her exhaustion, Daria found herself reviewing her encounter that afternoon." (Part 10) (Part 11) (Part 12)

  • These Boots are Made for Many Things (IC: Symbolism), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "'Dad, I want those,' Daria said, pointing to the pair of boots that had been pushed to the very edge of the display, as if trying to avoid detection."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria The Youngest Barksdale), by NightGoblyn (parts 2 and 3): "'So, what do you do for fun?' Jane asked. She was sitting across the table from Daria, having introduced her to her favorite pizza place." (Part 3)

Shine On, Harvest Quinn!

Joey, Jeffy, and Jamie are celebrating Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, but I'm not sure barbershop works as well as a trio instead of a quartet. Still, as long as they harmonize better than they impress Quinn....

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Fair Enough," which aired on this day in 1998. In that one, we saw a performance of a much different style than barbershop, although I wouldn't be surprised if the three Js' singing also ended with audience members throwing food at them.

Brittany's spreading a bit of kindness for Cheer up the Lonely Day, and I'm sure the nice people at Better Days Retirement Home appreciate the visit. Especially the dirty old men.

Today is also National Swimming Pool Day, so get in that pool and swim, you cow! Sorry. Blogger talk.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by Lady Evil (part 6): "'And it’s in!' Jake cheered as his ball rolled into the hole. He picked up his scorecard and made a note. 'And I made it in two under par! Not bad at all!'"

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 30 and 31): "Anna loved the view of her peaceful Feli Lake at almost any day of the year." (Part 31)

Are Crappy Cars in Fashion?

Daria and Jane are appreciating the hell out of Tom's Jaguar for Collector Car Appreciation Day, but I think the holiday was created with the intention of appreciating cars in halfway decent condition. Tom's cars tend to be one good sneeze away from falling apart.

Today is also Fashion Day, and I think it goes without saying that the Fashion Club is celebrating. Of course, they're probably celebrating by insulting each other's outfits, but if that's what makes them happy then I won't stop them.

Jake is obviously having second thoughts about celebrating National Dive Bar Day, but as long as the place serves martinis I'm sure he'll be fine. Mystik Spiral can take their pick of the Zon and McGrundy's, because it's a toss-up which of the two is the bigger dive.

Speaking of the band's questionable choices, today is also the anniversary of the episode "Road Worrier," which aired on this day in 1997. While the group didn't actually visit any dive bars, that diner probably wasn't a whole lot better.

Andrea doesn't look even remotely amused by National Bikini Day, and I don't really blame her. Couldn't they at least have found her something in black?

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by ladyevil (part 5): "'OK, Becky,' Jake was saying. 'Before you take a swing, you need to address the ball.' He looked down at the golf ball and waved. 'Hello, ball! Ha-ha, little joke there!'"

  • Jim And Kevin's Excellent Misadventure, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, Stacy, Nicole, Sandi and Tiffany are watching TV. Stacy: 'Thanks for having us over, Quinn.' Quinn: 'No problem, Stacy. Helen and Willow are going all-in for International Mud Day, but I hope they're ready for the soon-to-come International Laundry Day. It's gonna be an all-day event, judging by those stains.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Gifted," which aired on this day in 1998. Daria finally got to hang out with students who were as smart as she is, and she hated every minute of it. I guess Kevin and Brittany aren't so bad, after all?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria's Brother (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by shiva (part 1): "'Say kids,' Jake Morgendorffer said as he drove his new Lexus down the streets of Lawndale, 'I just want you to know that your mother and I understand that it's not easy moving to a new town.'"

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "Felicia Lovell awoke, on the floor of a TARDIS corridor. It looked much the same, but she knew that it was an even earlier version of the TARDIS."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 29): "The vast forest looked all calm and eerie under a clear twilight sky, there was almost no wind as the afternoon slowly transformed into yet another chilly night, everything was quiet and the silence was broken only by the whispers of a waterfall somewhere nearby."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by LadySparrow (part 4): "Now that Susan, the nighttime meteorologist, was back at the station, Ted finally had enough free time to begin to work on repairing and retooling what would soon be Daria’s new bookshelf."

  • One-Point Perspective (Iron Chef: Brittany's Got Artistic Talent), by Meester_Lee (part 1): "Daria completed her drawing and decided to take a breather."

  • Poison Pencil (Iron Chef: Brittany's Got Artistic Talent), by Meester_Lee (part 1): "Trent had just told Daria and Jane about his plan to see how models react to musicians when Brittany walked up the aisle, took a seat next to Daria, then started crying."

Boxing Catfish

Mack looks so proud of himself for National Catfish Day that I just don't have the heart to break it to him that I don't think that's really a catfish. Maybe the fish lied to Mack that it was a catfish when it wasn't, thus making Mack the first-ever victim of catfishing by a catfish?

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Boxing Daria," which aired on this day in 2001. So much insight into Daria's childhood and what made her the way she was, but also a funny episode at the same time. A great episode to end the show with!

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by Lady Evil (part 4): "'First thing to learn about golf, Becky,' Jake said as they drove to the first hole. 'Is that it’s all about your stance. Get into a good posture, bend those hips just right. I’ll show you how it’s done once we get there.'"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (parts 4 and 5): "Julia hung up after talking to Daria. She frowned." (Part 5)

  • I’m in love with you and I can’t anymore act like I’m not, please be my girlfriend, Jane Lane, by letmeloveyoulikeawoman (COMPLETE!): "after summer of moving from Lawndale and flirting with best friend Daria is here, in her room in dorm."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by LadySparrow (part 3): "The next morning, Daria got out of bed and headed downstairs for her morning coffee (her morning schedule being much earlier than it had been before she was hired at the station), when there was a knock on the door."

  • Return of the Runaway (IC Runaway Daria), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "Lillian followed Quinn away from the house into the streets of Lawndale. She hoped Quinn knew where she was going, otherwise they'd both be lost until sunrise."

Mr. DeMartino is immediately regretting his decision to re-create Benjamin Franklin's kite experiment, which happened on this day in 1752. If he's having second thoughts now, just wait until science teacher Ms. Barch finds out he's encroaching on her territory.

Today is also Sewing Machine Day, which Mr. DeMartino will celebrate by hemming a pair of pants...assuming he's saved up enough for a second pair.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by ladyevil (part 2): "Daria was in her happy place. It wasn’t an imaginary landscape this time. It was The Zon, last New Year’s Eve."

  • Blond Bimbos! (Random Pairing Challenge 2020), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "As the music pumped through the speakers, the lights flashed, the drinks flowed, the crowd of beautiful people in expensive clothes danced on the dance floor."

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Pinch Sitter," which aired on this day in 1997. No sex in that episode, thank goodness, but we did learn a lot about deprogramming brainwashed children.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Boy, by Lady Evil (part 1): "'Ouch!' Daria yelped as the saleslady stuck her with a pin. 'Hold still.' The saleslady scolded. 'I'm having a hard enough time with your body as it is.'"

  • Call Of The Mild, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, Jim, Tommy and Teddy are seated in the audience. Timmy is notably absent. Quinn has a proud smile on her face."

  • Hell-o-ween, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "The trees are now a wonderful collage of red, brown, orange and yellow which, combined with all of the Halloween decorations, let's us know it's fall. Economics teacher Mrs. Bennett will be glad to know that today is also the anniversary of the births of both Adam Smith in 1723 and John Maynard Keynes in 1883. Or maybe she won't. It's hard to know what school of economics she prefers, because her diagrams are completely insane.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Girl, by ladyevil (part 6): "At the end of the school day, Daria stood outside the library with Jane and Alfred."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 23): "Shadow laughed as Avalon told her something about the crows and ravens that just kept storming the corn plants in his garden, then she tossed a few coins into a basket for a young lady that played her guitar in a corner, they walked the pedestrian street between a cafe and a wine shop and it was then when they saw her at last."

Daria's way ahead of us for National Hamburger Day, although whether she'll eat it or put it in her boots to enjoy the squishy, squishy feeling around her toes remains to be seen.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Life in the Past Lane," which aired in 2001. The episode is largely infamous for introducing Nathan, who is probably only exceeded in fandom's disdain by Ken Edwards. Poor Jane, like Aunt Rita, really knows how to pick 'em.

Fanfic Update!
  • The 25 Best Movies for a Bad Movie Night, by Erin M (part 6): "It’s Abby’s first day at the ultra-trendy Canadian Cotton Clothiers store and, lucky her, her first shift is an overnight store set up all for the season’s new collection."

  • The Engineer and the Time Lady, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 14): "'A day to Earth,' the ENH stated. '24 hours exactly?' Alpha asked. 'Yes,' the Pilot answered."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 21): "Anna Felicia Coulthard had known that she was somewhere very special since she had taken her first steps outside of that house, and yet now, about seven hours later, she was even more convinced that her life on Earth had ended for sure and now she was somewhere else for real."

  • The Sappiest Place on Earth, by wilddogjj (part 4): "Daria, Quinn, Jim and Teddy were waiting for Jane, Tommy and Timmy to show up. Jim looked at his watch."

  • With the Band, by vixens (COMPLETE!): "Leisure day was tomorrow, which meant Lawndale students finally had a chance of having a long weekend. Daria took it as an opportunity to stay over at the Lane household, also giving herself a break from the annoying family she was tired of putting up with."

Dancers and Cowboys

Check out Jane's dance performance in honor of Isadora Duncan, born on this day in 1877. While Jane usually goes in for the visual medium, art is art! I just hope she dances better than she sings.

Today is also John Wayne's birthday, which I'm sure Jake is pleased about. I wonder if he ever got that collectible coin out of the sink drain.

D'awwwwww!

Jane and Trent are sharing a sweet moment for National Brother's Day, or at least a lot sweeter than anything going on between Sandi and her brothers right now. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the Griffin house is surrounded by police tape at this very moment.

Today is also National Escargot Day, so pull up a chair at Chez Pierre and--what? You don't have a reservation? Then no snails for you!

Fanfic Update!
  • American Girl, by ladyevil (part 4): "'So, Mom started telling me about how she learned from you and other sources how emotional neglect can produce toxic stress hormones.' Daria said to Dr. Becky."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 20): "It took Hemlock Allyngard some time just to decide exactly what kind of tactic to follow, it seemed that looking after the broken Anna Coulthard would be a lot more difficult than she had imagined and eventually she walked into the house trying to stay calm."

  • The Sappiest Place on Earth, by wilddogjj (parts 2 and 3): "Daria, Jane, Quinn, Jim and the triplets were at baggage claim. They'd just finished taking their luggage off the carousel." (Part 3)

Yay, Goths! I Mean...Whatever.

Andrea looks uncharacteristically cheerful because today is World Goth Day. Not that goths would care about getting the approval of an official holiday, right? That seems very un-gothlike to me.

Today is also National Maritime Day, and I encourage Mr. DeMartino to take the opportunity to finally live his dream of a life at sea. It's never too late, and a bit of seasickness is worth it to be free of Kevin, isn't it?

A Million Dollars Could Buy a Pretty Sweet Racecar!

Stacy's clearly enjoying NASCAR Day, and with no Sandi around to ruin it for her, why shouldn't she? Keep on driving, Stacy--leave the Fashion Club in your literal dust!

Today is also Be a Millionaire Day, but this one is a little tricky to celebrate. Unless you're a member of the Sloane family, anyway. Still, I'm happy to give it my best shot. Who's going to give me a million dollars?

Fanfic Update!
  • American Girl, by ladyevil (parts 2 and 3): "Jane, Daria and Alfred were in the cafeteria at lunch. 'So, rather than fly off to another Lane family reunion,' Jane was saying. 'Trent and I went out for Chinese on Thanksgiving. I had the Fu King shrimp with Fu King rice and a Fu King Coke.'" (Part 3)

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 3): "Helen came home while Jake and Daria were cooking dinner. Jake had silently marveled at how his oldest girl had improved her kitchen skills."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 17 - 19): "At first, everything in that place looked and felt exactly like Lawndale." (Part 18) (Part 19)

  • A Variant Lawndale - Beach Party Invitation, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "'Look, two types of chips,' Daria said in a tone of fake excitement."

Musing on Museums

It's International Museum Day, but you aren't limited to the Museum of Medical Oddities. You could also visit the Dog Collar Museum in England, Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum in America, or the Avanos Hair Museum in Turkey...or be boring and go to a regular art museum, I guess.

Today is also Visit Your Relatives Day, but I think Jane and Trent will pass on the opportunity to go to another family reunion. Given the choice, I think they'd rather go to the hair museum.

Don't Pierce Your Barbecue!

Daria's already gotten started celebrating National Piercing Day, but I hope she's ready for My Belly Button Itches Like Hell Day tomorrow. (Yes, I just made that up. Don't fact-check me.)

Today is also National Barbecue Day, so why not pave over that bomb shelter and make a grill to entertain the neighbors? Just check that everyone's out of the bomb shelter first, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 13 - 16): "It had been going on for quite some time already." (Part 14) (Part 15) (Part 16)

  • The Sappiest Place on Earth, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Daria and Jane were in their usual booth chatting over pizza, a habit from their days as teenagers in Lawndale that they continue as forty-year-old New Yorkers."

  • Tori In A Box, by arsyncosplays (COMPLETE!): "'Michael’s going away for a week,' I say, Becky and I are walking down our school hallway. I graduate next month."

  • Why the Morgendorffer's Don't Have a Third Child (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "The seven-year-old Daria stood solemnly next to the makeshift guillotine, her handmade Marrianne of France costume held together by safety pins and prayers."

Where's Don Quixote When You Need Him?

Brittany is ready for National Windmill Day, but am I the only one who thinks those windows are a bit on the small side for her? Perhaps that's a good thing, or else the windmill arms wouldn't be able to rotate.

Today is also Archery Day, so this might be a good time for Linda and Helen to hold another "friendly" competition. Except that it would probably end in one or both of them dead from arrow injuries.

It's Always May 12th in Lawndale

Quinn wants everyone to know that today is May 12th, which is the day the Morgendorffer calendar is inexplicably always stuck on. Groundhog Day scenario? Defective calendar? Quantum singularity? Sheer laziness? You make the call!

Today is also International Nurses Day, so to all the nurses out there--whether you're squealing in disgust at a student's rash or Tom dressing up as Nurse Goodnsexy--have a good one!

Fanfic Update!
  • American Girl, by ladyevil (part 1): "It was 10 am on Thanksgiving Day. Alfred basted the turkey breast loaf in his oven. It would be done in time for lunch."

  • Daria Spin the Bottle, by Meester_Lee (part 9): "Her ears pierced, Daria stopped by the pharmacy to stock up on supplies while the healing process was underway, then returned home."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 9 - 12): "The forest had been quite dark and eerie at night, to the point that Quinn, Stacy and Jeffy had found it difficult to fall asleep, and yet everything was so different now that the sun was once again shining in a vast and clear August sky..." (Part 10) (Part 11) (Part 12)

Anyone Want an Economist Cocktail?

Mrs. Bennett looks especially...um...crustaceous in honor of National Shrimp Day, and I'm just glad that the holiday refers to prawns. Us short people get enough grief as it is without needing a whole holiday to pick on us!

Today is also the beginning of National Mental Health Awareness Week, so please take care of yourself, okay? Also check in on your shrimp in case they're struggling. We all need help sometimes, even the invertebrates!

Motherhood is Decidedly Not Shiny

Happy Mother's Day to every mother out there, but especially Tiffany, who is clearly not having one of her best days. Kudos to her for keeping her figure, though! That's right, Tiffany: you still do not look freaking fat.

Today is also No Socks Day, so mothers everywhere can air out those stinky feet! What, were you expecting flowers or a spa day or something? Pffft.

Fanfic Update!
  • Beach Party Invitation, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (part 2): "After bribing the guard with Jane’s life drawings, they entered Crewe Neck. “Interesting instrumentals,” Daria commented as they approached the Taylor’s mansion."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 5 - 8): "It was already night at the peaceful streets of Lawndale, with the vast and lonely gardens, the sounds of birds and crickets and a few lights coming from every house here and there." (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8)

Child Care Providers MUST Wear Pants!

Let's have a brief Child Care Provider Day moment of silence for the many baby-sitters who fell in the line of duty while trying to wrangle Young Daria and Young Quinn. At least they can feel some satisfaction in knowing Daria got a taste of her own medicine in "Pinch Sitter."

Today is also National No Pants Day, and I just want to remind Jake that this holiday does not apply if he's going to stand in front of his bedroom window singing about what a beautiful morning in the 'burbs it is. Please.

No Fires in the Rooms Without Fireplaces!

Trent is prepped and ready for International Firefighters Day, but he's not really the kind of fireman who inspires me with confidence. Yes, he's awake, but you just know he's going to get distracted trying to come up with another rhyme for "moth to a flame" and let the whole house burn down.

Today is also Star Wars Day, and if you have to ask why May Fourth is Star Wars Day then you clearly are not geeky enough for this fandom.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria: In Another World?, by starwater09 (part 11): "Daria once again found herself spending the day alone from her friends...God was it strange to admit, but she did have friends (as in plural) now."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 1 - 4): "Lawndale, just outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was a very peaceful and almost perfect place for most people to settle and start a good family." (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • A Lane’s Return to Lawndale, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (part 1): "Summer Lane looked at Lawndale from the roadside. She usually hated returning to the place. This time was no different."

"Goo goo!"

Everyone say hi to Evan Landon for Baby Day, although considering that Evan was an infant in 1998 he's probably grown a bit since then. He might even have a baby of his own! Unless Andrew is still too young to be a grandfather, that is.

If Evan has more than one child, though, then they can also celebrate Brothers and Sisters Day. Heaven knows Jodie will be too busy to celebrate with him, and Rachel may not have forgiven him for taking her place as youngest in the family.
