Quinn With a Gun Is Hair-Raising!
I see that the Fashion Club is already celebrating National Braiders Day, and if Quinn's expression is any indication then you'd better join them before she pulls that trigger. If you need any help you can ask Tad and Tricia Gupty, who perfected their technique on Daria when she was their baby-sitter.
I don't recommend that you try to braid the fur on any feline pets, even if it is International Cat Day. First of all, the braids will make it harder for them to groom themselves. Secondly, trying to braid an unwilling cat will almost undoubtedly lead to grave physical harm to the braider.
On this day 27 years ago, Martin J. Pollard posted the essay "Shipping Out" in response to Daria/Trent (and Jane/Jesse) shipper stories. As the essay was written prior to The Kiss, it's fun to take a peek into the biggest shipper controversy...at the time.
As a fun little tidbit, this marks the DFB2's 4700th post. Do I get a special award?

Once Upon a Time....
Daria is having an enjoyable Campfire Day, or at least she seems to be enjoying herself. I don't know how much everyone listening to her grisly fairy tale is enjoying their time.
If they need to get away from the graphic violence, they could find a higher vantage point by celebrating Mountain Climbing Day. That's if there's a convenient mountain in the area, of course. And assuming they brought the appropriate climbing gear. And let's hope they don't find Mr. O'Neill's underpants acting as a makeshift flag.
Speaking of horror stories, although today is National Girlfriends Day, I hope Tom knows that the plural refers to women who are friends with each other, not an encouragement to date multiple people simultaneously. I would hope that he'd learned his lesson after the last time, but....
Fanfic Update!
- Daria Barksdale, by DrT (COMPLETE!): "Helen dropped into a chair, exhausted. 'Finally,' she said. 'I finally forced Daria into a different room so she would stop teasing Quinn about Santa.'"
- Equestria Hurls, by Erin M (part 4): "Nathan paused as he walked down the street to his car. Something was off. He glanced behind him, unable to shake the feeling he was being followed."
- For Jane, It Was Tuesday, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Since arriving in Lawndale with the feeling that the best thing about it would be the lower level of uranium in the drinking water, Daria has busted out of self-esteem class and left a cheerleader's party with the bounty of a free sock."
- Inter-Quell, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Taiwanese vegan food, with its centuries-long tradition of substitution and mimicry, might be the closest approximation to cyborg food that actually tastes good."
- Just One Question, Really, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Daria is bundled up in her winter coat and smushed down under a woolen cap. After the confines of travel and then the December wind, her hair is on the edge of unkempt."
- Lawndale Makes Strange Bedfellows, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'That boy used to be popular, but then his parents divorced and his dad took the cool car, so he's less popular. Those three boys are on the football team but only JV, so they're medium popular. She is new and cute, so she's going to be popular fast. Those two, ugh, I don't know why they're here, Brittany must be volunteering to provide social skills for the less fortunate...'"
- Pokemon: May's Journey, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "A few hours later, the aircraft descended into Lavender Town. May noticed the somber tone of the town as they circled around the tower before landing in front of it."
- Puella Magi Daria Magica, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'Wait, did you say six times?' An hour ago, the girl behind Daria in Mr. O'Neill's quintessentially useless self-esteem building session had been whispering to her to sit back and ignore the details, and now they're walking together, Daria looking up at dark hair and a face just a bit too angular to be called heart-shaped and extraordinarily blue eyes."
- Spider Quinn 22 Attractions of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (parts 9 and 10): "Dafoanairi reflected on what happened as she and the Enigma stepped into Dega Street from the laneway." (Part 10)
- Strong Teamwork, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'Who am I?' asked the judge, reading from his note card. 'In my youth, I read alchemists like Paracelsus and Albertus Magnus—'"
- This doesn't feel like I'm helping, by Robin_Robinson (COMPLETE!): "Quinn was gorgeous. No doubt about that. Everyone knew it. From the popular to unpopular, from young to old, from enemies to her closest friends, everyone knew that Quinn Morgendorffer was among the cutest at school."
- Women Who Love Vulcan Women, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "T'Lyn, eldest daughter of Suvatri and T'Kel, is about to order her room-temperature water from the mess-hall replicator when her padd chirps."
- You Are My Best Bet, by riotsquirrrl (part 6): "Jane had a way of looking at you, Daria thought, as she carefully focused on eating her cake. Clear and sharp, seeing the gestalt of her."

Spare a Thought for That Poor Camel!
Daria is giving Jake a little help for Thread the Needle Day, and perhaps Mr. DeMartino can give him some pointers on sewing technique. Those two really need more bonding moments, considering how much they have in common.
Travis should be grateful that Daria is armed with nothing more dangerous than a needle, because it's also National Day of the Cowboy and she may take that as an excuse to get behind the wheel of a car. As long as he keeps his folksy stories to himself, he'll probably be fine.
Ms. Li will be pleased to know that it's also Health and Happiness with Hypnosis Day, although she's more interested in gaining wealth than health. Remember to tithe your earnings!

He Wishes He Was an Oscar Mayer Wiener!
Kevin is suited up and ready to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, but I hope he isn't planning to get behind the wheel. After his misadventures on his motorcycle, I shudder to imagine what catastrophe would occur with a full-sized vehicle.
I suppose it would be safer for him to celebrate World Listening Day by singing the jingle instead, although I'm sure it would get old quickly. At least it would be a nice change from "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall!"
I don't think anyone in Lawndale will be observing Perfect Family Day, because every family on the show has more than a few imperfections. It makes life more interesting, and it keeps the laughs coming!
Fanfic Update!
- Balancing Emotions, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'Greetings, Academician,' Jack Ransom says to the Vulcan on his ready-room monitor screen. 'I'm Captain Ransom of the USS Cerritos. We are en route and will be within transporter range in two hours.'"
- Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 17): "Stacy saw the column in the middle of the console go up and down, but it was the sound of the engines and the shaking of the floor that nearly overwhelmed her. But there was something else she felt, as if someone was trying to reassure her."
- Dozo, Motto Panukeiku, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "About two months after they move from bustling Niihama to the former megalopolis of Tokyo, Jane gets a request for a house call."
- Dryer Vent Event, by riotsquirrrl (part 4): "'I told you it was a bad day to go running.' 'I know! I know! I'm not used to all of the ice here.'"
- Dys4ia, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Jane has a moment to get a bad feeling when two blocks of air under the bridge waver with something too geometrical to be heat."
- Equestria Hurls, by Erin M (part 3): "'What do you mean, it wasn’t Equestria?' asked Twilight Sparkle. She passed the magical journal to Rarity and started patting herself down, looking for something."
- Heavenly Wine and Roses, by riotsquirrrl (part 15): "Daria spends the rest of the weekend in her room, mostly staring at her ceiling."
- I Must Be On Another Planet, by DumbLittleProblems (part 7): "Daria sat with her boots up on the dashboard in the passenger seat. Her dwelling feelings of resentment from the distasteful conversation with her counselor did not go untold to Jane Lane on the way up to Lawndale."
- Just One Question, Really, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Daria feels weird walking into a pub in Alphabet City with a bag on her back holding all she'll need for the weekend, but that's just the background radiation of weird that is Daria's life, and she can handle that much by now."
- "Not Unfortunately the Universe is Wild", by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "They're off the boat in Niihama about thirty-six hours before Daria segfaults in the street."
- Spider Quinn 22 Attractions of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (parts 7 and 8): "'Jane?' O’Neill asked. 'What about you?' 'Being conventional.' 'And how is that going?'" (Part 8)
- Study A Broad, by Bolshevitch (part 4): "As a student, Brittany is surprisingly involved. She raises her hand in class, engages with the professors' questions, and usually even has a couple of her own (even if they’re not always related)."

Swim, You (Not) Cow, Swim!
Although Stacy gets partial credit for celebrating National Swimming Pool Day by being in the general area of a pool, it would probably make more sense to actually enter the pool. Perhaps she's afraid Quinn will start shouting "encouragement" at her the way she did when she was helping Sandi lost weight. Or she just doesn't want to ruin her makeup.
Seeing that it's National Culture and Senior Citizens Day, this would be a good opportunity to visit the Better Days Retirement Home and read to seniors. Just take care with your reading material, as they don't seem to care for "Howl."
At least by visiting them--with or without reading material--you can also observe Cheer up the Lonely Day at the same time. Be sure that the person you're trying to cheer up is actually lonely, though. I'm sure Daria is much happier alone than in the presence of others, so the best way to cheer her up is to keep a safe distance.

We're All Mad Here
Stacy is prepared to play a round of croquet in honor of Alice in Wonderland Day, and if you're worried that she'll be intimidated by the Queen of Hearts then let me set your mind at ease. The Queen has nothing on Sandi Griffin, so Stacy should have no problem handling her.
Travis, on the other hand, had better be careful on National Country Music Day. You never know when an angry Daria Morgendorffer will get behind the wheel of a car and decide to prove that she isn't timid.
Finally, happy birthday to the United States of America on this 250th Independence Day! We may be having some rough times right now, but I think we look pretty good for two and a half centuries old.
Fanfic Update!
- Daria's Addition, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Daria Sloane spent her war pushing numbers in the desert. Her days were filled with the soprano chorus of her fellow computers, the private jokes born of long proximity, the incessant ringing of the Marchant calculators in all their ears, as they circulated figures that stood for shock waves and superheated turbulence."
- Jane's Multiplication, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Daria and Jane stand over the empty refrigerator box in the Morgendorffer family's side yard."
- Rescue from Mother-Daughter Bonding Day, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'Hello-o-o?' 'Mrs. Morgendorffer?' The boy on the phone is certainly polite. 'This is Tom, Daria's friend.'"
- Roses and Reds, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "Trent was a great putterer, around the house and in the garden. It often fell to Jane to finish projects, like getting the trestles up, but he tended the tomatoes and the orange trees, the roses and the rosemary."
- Sirius Black and the Gray Man (Daria Ravenclaw: Loose Snippets), by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "Seances and speaking with the dead were not practices Sirius Black did very often. The dead were—dead—and most of the people he remembered from his childhood, from Hogwarts, and during his brief time as an Auror trainee he didn’t really care for."
- Spider Quinn 22 Attractions of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (parts 5 and 6): "Brittany was doing her homework, going over a problem she and Daria had talked about at the tutoring session, when she heard an email notification on her laptop." (Part 6)
- Study A Broad, by Bolshevitch (part 3): "She wakes up with a blinding sunbeam in her face. Vampiric instincts throw her scrambling out of bed before she notices yet another sticky note above her, but still no roommate."
- Three Points Determine a Plane, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "The T car squealed and screeched. Jane figured they did that even while standing still, just to keep in practice."
- What If the Town Blew Away, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "September 1945. Los Alamos, New Mexico. 'Is that an Army phrasebook for Japanese?'"

She Hasn't Lost Her Bouncity-Bounce!
I think someone needs to explain to Brittany that, while today is the 99th anniversary of the birth of "Captain Kangaroo" actor Bob Keeshan on this day in 1927, he wasn't an actual kangaroo. On second thought, someone should wait to explain it to her until after she puts away the boxing gloves. That girl can pack a mean punch.
Meanwhile, perhaps Trent will celebrate the Great American Backyard Campout by setting up his tent again. I doubt it, though--he didn't seem to have very fond memories of that era of his life.
Both Jane and Trent should remember to bring appropriate eyewear for Sunglasses Day, especially if they plan on attending any Lane family reunions. Of course, it's highly unlikely that either of them will be willing to attend any such family reunions, especially if Aunt Bernice will be there as well.

I Hope He Remembers to Breathe
Looks like Jeffy stands a good chance of taking first prize for Hollerin’ Contest Day! The bad news is that the prize is probably a Z93 bumper sticker and/or tissue-thin T-shirt.
Speaking of disappointments, today is the anniversary of the movie Jaws, which premiered on this day in 1975. The disappointment comes from Jordana's souvenir "tooth" and very derivative storytelling skills.
In fandom-related milestones, the site Outpost Daria Reborn first went online on this day in 2014. Thank you to neonhomer for keeping a piece of Daria history going!

- Babies r cool, by Horned_Catfish (COMPLETE!): "The two teens were just watching TV as they always do everyday when they have nothing else to do. Today just felt like an average day, only for Butthead though."
- Green Lantern Daria: Basic Training, by echopapa (parts 3 - 5): "'Uhh... yeah. Supergirl, is it?' Daria said, her voice sounding flat even to her own ears as they hovered thousands of feet above the Kansas plains." (Part 5)

Just Keep the First Aid Kit Within Reach!
I'm sure Jake will live up to his reputation on National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day, but in his defense he's the only member of the Morgendorffer family who regularly tries to cook anything. I don't think Helen, Daria, or Quinn would necessarily fare much better if they tried to make dinner.
On the other hand, in honor of National Jane Day, I should point out that--between Jane and Trent--Jane is almost definitely the one who kept food on the table. She was even the one in charge of bringing Trent his sandwiches during his campout-in-the-yard era.
Finally, for those who prefer working with textiles over ingredients, today is Sewing Machine Day. I hope that Mr. DeMartino has a machine of his own, because I'm sure hemming his own pants would be much easier with one.

Wait...Is That Superman on the Right?
Apparently Jane has decided to celebrate National Eyewear Day, but I don't think Daria will be pleased. Unfortunately, with her impaired vision her chances of snatching back her glasses are very low.
She's definitely going to need those glasses in order to study, especially if she's gone on to college or even grad school, which would be appropriate for National Higher Education Day. I just hope that the people at college in real life are a lot nicer than the ones in her daydream.
Once Jane is done messing with Daria's eyewear, she could go hang out at that abandoned drive-in to take part in National Drive-In Movie Day. She just needs to be careful, because the last thing she'll want is to run into Nathan there.
Fanfic Update!
- Avatar: The Drama Of Daria, by psychotol (part 15): "'Being the sister of the Avatar should be a source of pride at school, but instead Daria somehow managed to turn the whole thing into a spinal injury inducing source of cringe, Sandi has had to demote me to Treasurer, Tiffany has had to take up that role,' said Quinn as the family sat around the table consuming the evening meal."
- Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 16): "Peter considered webslinging back to Glen Oaks Lane, but decided against it. Spider-Man appearing in Lawndale would draw too much attention."

- Green Lantern Daria: Basic Training, by echopapa (parts 1 and 2): "'How would you like to go to Hawaii?' Daria crouched in a jagged volcanic vent, the emerald aura of her Power Ring shimmering as it filtered out the sulfurous steam and noxious gases." (Part 2)
- Heavenly Wine and Roses, by riotsquirrrl (part 13): "'So why are we going to DC?' Daria asks as she sits down on a metro car window seat early on a Saturday morning. Which, for Daria, really meant anytime before noon."

- Spider Quinn 22 Attractions of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (parts 1 and 2): "It was still in the early hours when SpiderGirl responded to alarms at the facility on Lawndale’s northern edge, not far from the Interstate." (Part 2)

Vroooooom!
Stacy is totally hyped for the anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500 race, which happened 115 years ago today! Wait...does that mean that the Indianapolis 500 is...out of date?! Nooooo!
It could be worse, though, as instead of being unfashionable Stacy could meet the same fate as Joan of Arc, whose feast day is today. Daria could celebrate by ordering either a steak or a stake, but I strongly recommend choosing the first one. Either way, someone or something will end up well cooked.
Finally, Daria and Jane could spend the day writing or drawing, because today is National Creativity Day. Of course, with their luck they'll both be hit by writer's block and there will be no creativity to be had at all.

Do Turtles Get Divorced?
Ms. Barch has either decided to give a very unusual zoology demonstration or else perhaps she's celebrating World Turtle Day. Either way, it should be a day no one in her class forgets! Upchuck will be relieved; now he can outrun her if necessary.
I hope the Yeagers wish Ethan a happy National Ethan Day, and perhaps let him go rock climbing to celebrate. When he's ready, of course.
Two days ago was the anniversary of "One J at a Time," in which Quinn gives monogamy a spin but ultimately decides not to bother. Considering her potential steady boyfriends left her without a second thought in favor of squirrels and go-karting, I'm not sure I blame her.

- Daria: The Risa 1000, by echopapa (parts 1 - 9): "'Let me get this straight,' Daria said, her voice flat enough to serve as a level for a warp core. 'Our plan for "relaxation" involves borrowing a legendary grav-bike from a Fleet Admiral, "borrowing" a Starfleet Runabout from a supervisor who is legally required to stop us, and then flying both into a curated typhoon on a planet known for its "Jamaharon" hospitality. What About Pierced Brains?
Daria has already celebrated National Piercing Day, but it remains to be seen if she keeps the piercing this time or not. If you've been wanting to get pierced, then today's the day. Dare you to get your not-uvula done!
For those who aren't into self-perforation, you could participate in National Learn to Swim Day instead. Unless you already know how to swim, I suppose, in which case I guess you should swim, you cow! Swim! Sorry. Coach talk.

Three Cheers for Windmills!
It seems that Brittany has traded her pompoms for windmill blades in honor of Windmill Day, but it's going to make cheerleading much more difficult. Let's just hope she doesn't end up at the top of the pyramid! I'm sure Tad Gupty will want to celebrate this holiday, with his strong admiration for their clean source of energy, but I hope he keeps an eye on his family's whereabouts at the same time so he doesn't lose them.
If he does, hopefully Daria will be there to help him again, which is only right because this is also National Babysitters Day. Of course, Daria doesn't observe this holiday willingly, no matter how much Quinn whines.
At least she could go hang out at Jane's house afterward, and perhaps even celebrate National Sleepover Day! They shouldn't bother to sleep, though, because it's also Stay Up All Night Day. That might be a bad idea, however, because it didn't work out so well for Trent and Jesse the night before the flea market!
Fanfic Update!

- Star Trek: Daria: Changing Lanes, by echopapa (part 1): "The sun over the Daystrom Institute’s Pasadena campus was relentless, the kind of bright, clean heat that made the 24th century look like a travel brochure. Daria Will Be Deliberately Abstaining From This One
I see that Jake and Helen were happy to celebrate Join Hands Day back in their hippie days, but I'm sure today they're much too busy for that kind of thing. It's too bad, though, because that Pentagon isn't going to levitate itself!
Several Lawndale High students could observe Brothers and Sisters Day, having both, but not many of them would actually want to. Jane tolerates Trent pretty well, but she seems quite content to let the rest of her siblings stay far, far away.
There may be room for more brothers or sisters, though, because it's also Baby Day! In Sandi's words, "They're so cute when they smile at you. 'Hello, precious!'"

"It's the Soul Train. Beep beep. Get on board."
Jane looks pretty happy to celebrate International Dance Day, even though it's not her usual preferred art form. Perhaps she's thinking up a new school dance theme, after her success with Jackson Pollock.
Quinn might decide to observe World Wish Day by closing her eyes and imagining what she wants. She might even wish for something not completely shallow this time!
Going forward, this blog will be updating once a week rather than every other day. In part this is to lighten the load on my schedule, and in part because the pace of fandom news and fanfic have slowed enough that it isn't necessary to provide updates more often.

Swing and a Miss!
Looks like Mr. O'Neill is trying baseball out in honor of Babe Ruth Day, but I don't think he's going to give the Sultan of Swat a run for his money. On the other hand, maybe he'll be a better athlete than he will a teacher. It's not like he can be any worse, right?
I'm sure Daria will turn down any offer of athleticism in favor of celebrating Tell a Story Day, especially if she can gross out the rest of her family as she does so. She could also celebrate at the Better Days Retirement Home, although that's a much tougher crowd.
If she decides to tell a multimedia story, she could recruit Jane and collaborate for World Design Day...but I suggest they not bother with music. Trent is about the least reliable person on the planet, and they've already been burned once by him.

Are Black and White Both the Current Neutral?
Sandi is sporting a radically new look in honor of World Penguin Day, but I really don't it's going to go over well. I mean, a tuxedo? Black tie during the daytime is definitely a fashion don't.
I hope Jane knows that today is National Day of Puppetry, because it will give her the opportunity to test out her theory that everything is funnier with puppets. Well, everything except for wacky radio DJs.
Quinn and Helen, I'm sure, will be glad to know that today is National Telephone Day, because there are few things more important to them than phones. I suspect that the modern age of mobile technology has only made them even more attached to their phones, as well.

Calleth Me Not "Mack Daddy"!
Although Mack has clearly mastered the art of dressing like Shakespeare, it remains to be seen if he'll be celebrating Talk Like Shakespeare Day as well. At least he can't do much worse than Kevin did, with or without a skull. Even Jamie managed to get the words right, even if his inflection needed work.
I see that Mack is also observing World Book Day, and I have no doubt that Daria will be doing the same thing no matter where she is. Feel free to join in, Shakespeare or otherwise.
If you're more in the mood for a multimedia experience, you could enjoy Movie Theatre Day instead. After all, in Daria's words, "Let's face it. Most people would rather watch a movie than read a book. It's fast, it's easy, and you don't have to worry about your lips moving." Bonus points for watching a Shakespeare adaptation!

Woof!
This gorgeous fellow is enjoying a celebratory stick for National Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day, but I hope he watches where he's going. Daria is a licensed driver now, she still wears glasses instead of contacts, and she's anything but timid after her encounter with Travis.
I hope that Mrs. Stoller is enjoying Kindergarten Day, especially because she apparently believes everyone she sees is a kindergartner. At least you know her students were always very aware of their posture.
Since today is National Library Workers Day, I want to tell you all one thing: Shhhhhh! Okay, fine, you can talk quietly. Just watch out for falling roofs, all right?
Fanfic Update!
- Of Inhuman Bonding, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, Jim and Tommy were in the parking lot speaking to a panicked Kevin and Artie."
- Spider Quinn 21 A View of Oakwood and Ruins, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "Upon using an emergency exit they found security waiting for them. Ninja Talon slammed it closed and SpiderGirl webbed it shut."
- Unfortunate Son, by wilddogjj (part 1): "It was Sunday night and the Carbones (Quinn, Jim and the triplets) were having a huge Italian Sunday dinner in the dinning room. Extended family were present as well. Jake and Helen were there, though Daria wasn’t due to being too busy to commute from NYC to Lawndale."
