Back to Buxton Ridge

We get the name of Jake Morgendorffer's military school from The Daria Diaries, with a hint in Is It College Yet? that going to a military academy was a "Morgendorffer tradition" (or so says Helen, but she might have been joking). Jake is firmly opposed to the idea of his children going to the same place to which he was sent by his father.

However, remember that in "Boxing Daria" Daria confessed to "writing violent revenge fantasies just to get a reaction" at age 15. What if her school took a dim view of her writing and expelled her, and her writings drew the attention of the legal system? Granted, we're talking about Highland High School and the all-accepting Mr. Van Driessen here, but it's still possible. Would Jake have considered sending Daria to military school then?

Roentgen once suggested that I write an AU story about Daria (not Darius) at Buxton Ridge. I worked with the idea for a while but set it aside, wanting to come up with a very different take on how that would turn out (different from "Darius," I mean). What would Buxton Ridge be like in the late 1990s? How would Daria cope with being there, assuming it was co-educational? Who would she meet there? (Possible crossover time, possible meeting with children of cadets and staff who knew Jake.) If anyone else wants to run with this idea, be my guest.

I've always thought that the violent revenge fantasies were the Melody Powers stories (giving credence to those fanfics which equate her and Daria, since she has Powers take the revenge on society -- disguised as those godless Commies -- she cannot). And we all know the reaction those got. ;-)
