Jane's Right; She DOES Grow Lovelier By the Day!

Daria's dressed up for the anniversary of the publication of the book Gone with the Wind on this day in 1936. I don't think Quinn had cosplaying in mind when she invited Daria to watch the movie with her, but one thing I know for sure: Daria is definitely still wearing her boots under there.

Coming back to the modern day, please feel free to celebrate Social Media Day by either posting something online or, better yet, contributing to the now-dormant Facebook episodes Iron Chef I posted back in 2010. I have no doubt that Quinn is a prolific poster on every possible social media platform, and I bet she competes fiercely with Sandi over who has the most followers.

Finally, it was on this day in 1997 that the episode "The Big House" first aired, in which we learned that Mr. DeMartino has a heart condition, Jake doesn't know the difference between Thomas Jefferson and Joseph Stalin, and Daria plays a mean harmonica.

Jake is certainly not looking amused for the anniversary of Queen Victoria's coronation on this day in 1838. In his defense, that outfit doesn't look at all comfortable and I'm sure he doesn't feel very confident in his ability to rule an entire nation.

Daria, meanwhile, might consider finally getting her ears pierced for International Body Piercing Day, unless her belly button experience soured her on the whole idea. Just as long as, whatever choice she makes, she does it for her own reasons and not to impress some guy.

It was on this day in 2000 that the episode "Psycho Therapy" first aired. It's a fan favorite not only because of the legendary role-playing exercise, but Tom's viral-before-viral-was-a-thing butt wiggle on Jane Cam. Just think; if things had gone differently he might be an influencer by now!

Meanwhile, in 1998, Daria and Jane hosted the "Top 10 Animated Videos Countdown." It's exactly as snarky as you think, too.

I Bet She Puts Quinn's High Pain Tolerance to the Test Often

Everyone should wish poor Jozu a happy Beautician’s Day, and let's hope she's got enough patience to deal with someone as demanding as Quinn. Just listening to Quinn go on and on about the popularity struggles and dating scene in high school would be enough to earn her a 100% tip.

Perhaps Helen should get her hair done for her and Jake's anniversary, because it was on this day in 1975 that they made their commitment vows. Next year is the big 50, guys! Helen, maybe you could consider taking the day off work for it?

If anyone is looking for a tasty treat today, I can recommend pudding for National Chocolate Pudding Day! Just don't let it sit too long, because even Brittany and Daria can agree that pudding should never have skin.

Jodie is ready to grant wishes for International Fairy Day, but I hope someone grants her wish to have some free time at last. If you'd like to read some hilarious stories about other Daria characters as fairies, try Aloysius's "Scarlett the Fairy" series or The Angst Guy's "Jane Unchained" and "Uranium in the Drinking Water."

Meanwhile, Quinn and Sandi can hit the pool for Swim a Lap Day, and maybe this time the tables will turn and Sandi will be the one to scream "Swim, you cow!" to Quinn instead. Or they could both share the pool for some laps, but I suspect that might end with at least one of them trying to drown the other.

I hope Trent finally landed that dream job of being a farmer paid not to grow crops, because it's Farmer Day and that would be very appropriate. For those who do want to grow crops, you could always ask Ted DeWitt-Clinton for advice.

Girls Just Wanna Camp Out

The Fashion Club is ready, in all of their 80s glory, to wish Cyndi Lauper a happy 71st birthday! I just hope she doesn't sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" because half of Lawndale might freak out thinking that Metalmouth is coming after them.

Still, I think it's probably safe to observe the Great American Backyard Campout, as long as you don't camp in a car with chompable handles. Trent can even get his old tent out and wait for Jane to bring him some sandwiches!

Don't tell Tom and Daria that today is National Kissing Day, though. Even if Jane has made her peace with the whole fiasco, I don't think Helen could take the stress of it.

Daria and Jane are off to see the Great White Shark in honor of the anniversary of the movie Jaws, which was released on this day in 1975. I'm afraid they'll be disappointed to find it's only a tooth, but listening to Jordana recreate the entire movie for them will surely make up for it. Or not.

Fortunately, the long walk to get there means they also got to celebrate National Hike with a Geek Day at the same time. Don't ask which one of them is the geek, though.

A happy ten year anniversary to Outpost Daria Reborn, which went online on this day in 2014. Well done, Kevin Bess/NeonHomer, in keeping a Daria tradition going!

He Caught a Fish THIS Big!

Mack has had a very successful Go Fishing Day, although the best part was probably being able to spend some quiet time away from Kevin. Although I'm not a fan of fishing, personally--yuck--I hope anyone who does enjoy it gets some time out at the water today.

If you don't feel like cooking your catch, that's great because it's also Sushi Day! Just don't go to Tokyo Toby's, or as it's known in medical circles, the worm factory.

Poor Jake learned that lesson the hard way in "My Night at Daria's," which aired on this day in 2001. I think he'd rather go through the ordeal all over again, though, than face Daria after catching Tom sneaking out of the house. Poor awkward Jake.

Let's hope that if he does the cooking then Jake uses plenty of healthy ingredients in honor of Fresh Veggies Day. If he's running out (because I seriously doubt the Morgendorffer family stocks fresh food of any kind) then he could check with Kevin and Brittany to see if they have any leftovers from the Food in Film Festival.

Finally, it was on this day that the episode "Too Cute" first aired in 1997. Quinn tried to get $6,000 in plastic surgery, Daria showed some genuine concern for her sister, and Upchuck found a new hobby relating to fake boobs that no one wants to think about.

I hope that if you see someone dressed in nothing but rose petals that it's someone you love, because it's Loving Day and that would be much more appropriate. Although I wouldn't wish this fate on even people I don't like, because who wants to have to pick rose petals out of awkward places?

Honestly, I'd much rather celebrate National Peanut Butter Cookie Day with Rita and Helen once they've finished cooking the pre-made dough. Celebrate by eating the cookies, that is. Not wearing them. Just thought it would be a good idea to clarify.

Someone needs to do a review of what Jake's putting in the pot for Herb and Spices Day, and quick. Left unsupervised, he's likely to turn his own tongue black and the Morgendorffers will end up with frozen lasagna again.

After dinner they could put on a classic movie in honor of Judy Garland's birth on this day in 1922. Not only did one of Garland's most famous movies, The Wizard of Oz, get several references during the show, but it also made a significant appearance in the "Daria's Inferno" video game.

Finally, someone tell Quinn's poor date that he can finally talk now because it's National Shawn Day and she can't shush him. Well...she can, but he's completely free to ignore her and say "What?" as much as he wants.

Do Any Pests Wear Glasses?

Jane is having fun celebrating National Eyewear Day but I don't think Daria appreciates it; she really needs those! I hope Kevin still has his pair so he can join in, with or without the lenses.

Instead of stealing glasses she doesn't need, Jane might consider visiting an old drive-in theater for National Drive-In Movie Day, because I hear they're kind of eerie and cool. Then again, if there's a chance Nathan will be there then it might be better to steer clear.

Speaking of unwanted people and/or animals, be sure to celebrate World Pest Day by either eliminating or acting as a pest to someone else. Daria probably feels like she celebrates this one every time she opens a book and gets interrupted.

Quinn has seen better days now that it's Old Maid’s Day, and in fact she probably now belongs at the Better Days Nursing Home. The good news is that she's definitely not going to need a fake ID to get into any clubs from now on!

Someone tell Jake that it's National Cheese Day and it's the perfect time to try out his squirrel impression. Just...maybe not when either of the girls has a date over, okay?

It would be interesting to try it the next time Helen's sisters come to visit, though. Jake pretending to be a squirrel would have made "Aunt Nauseam," which aired on this day in 2001, a very different story.

On the Plus Side, No More Cavities!

I don't think Metal Mouth will be celebrating National I Love My Dentist Day, although it was nice of him to offer those baby food coupons. Given the typical teacher's budget, he could use all the help he could get.

After losing all of his teeth, I don't think anyone would blame him for celebrating National Leave Work Early Day, either. Unless he's leaving work in order to stalk teenagers in their cars, that is.

The good news is that ice cream is soft, so instead of becoming a creepy urban legend he could just relax with a sweet treat for National Rocky Road Day. Daria should watch out for actual rocky roads, though, especially if she's traveling in the Tank. That head bump was nasty.

Tiffany is giving Mount Everest Day a shot, but I don't give her very good odds of succeeding. Her brainpower under normal circumstances is iffy, so in the thin air of a mountaintop she'd probably be even more useless than usual.

For those who'd like to keep both feet (and maybe the rest of themselves) on the ground, there's always Learn About Composting Day! Just ask Willow and Helen for some pointers...or at least ask Willow, anyway. I think Helen's had her fill of the whole thing.

If you're interested in learning about other gross things, you might talk to Jane and Daria about End of the Middle Ages Day, and I'm sure they'd be happy to pass along some fun facts. Although I use the terms "fun" and "facts" quite loosely.

Party On, Hoopy Froods!

Mrs. Johanssen clearly knows where her towel is for Towel Day, and I hope you have a good idea where yours is, too! For those who aren't aware, this holiday is a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, and if you haven't read it I highly recommend it.

The book is a must-have for all geeks, which is excellent because today is also Geek Pride Day. It goes without saying that the Daria fandom tends to lean towards the geekier side of things, so please enjoy whatever geeky pursuits you want today without any embarrassment!

You can even burst into song for National Sing Out Day, although I kind of hope that the Daria cast doesn't. Some of them couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, and the songs from "Daria!" are some of the worst earworms.

Ms. Barch seems to have expanded her hatred of males beyond human limits for World Turtle Day, so everybody needs to take shelter inside their shells as soon as possible. The good news is that Upchuck, Mack, and any other usual targets of her rage will have an easy time outrunning her now. The bad news is that Ms. Barch is going to live a lot longer.

In particular, I hope Ethan Yaeger will stay out of her way because it's National Ethan Day and he shouldn't have to deal with that kind of drama on his day. Quinn might consider taking him out for another slush cup, but she'll most likely have to pay again. It should be a good opportunity to dig up some more dirt on her parents, though!

Andrea's trying a new career choice for National Waiters and Waitresses Day, and I suppose it can't be much worse than working at PayDay. In fact, this could give her the opportunity to hone her snark and get paid for it!

She could pick up some pointers from the waitress at Mom's Diner on carsickness remedies for National Stop Nausea Day, too. Daria's best option was dry toast and tea, but I'm sure there are other possibilities out there.

Finally, it was on this day in 2001 that the episode "One J at a Time" first aired, and Quinn gave monogamy a spin. When that failed, Jake and the three Js gave go-karting a spin, which was much more fun for all involved.

Helen and Rita are joining forces for what may be the first time ever in order to celebrate World Baking Day! Fortunately for them, the holiday only says "baking" and doesn't mention anything about the recipes being from scratch. Enjoy those cookies, ladies!

If you're looking for a bit more of a challenge, you might consider Plant Something Day. A flower, a tree, a Tommy Sherman Memorial Crutch...as long as you plant something, you're good!

More specifically, you could put in some nutritious food for World Plant a Vegetable Garden Day. The DeWitt-Clinton family can probably offer you advice on planting corn, squash, and beans, but I don't recommend spending too much time in their company. A little of them goes a long way.

Daria and Jane are taking absolutely no chances on Walk Safely To School Day, because you never know when a crack in the sidewalk or a pebble in the path will trip you up. Of course, the real danger is a crush pulling up next to you and embarrassing you to death.

I sure hope Helen calls Linda Griffin to wish her a happy National Linda Day, if only because she's Helen's favorite Linda who lives in Lawndale and is the mother of one's of Quinn's friends. If she's lucky, she might get to hear that story about interviewing Rosalynn Carter. Again.

Flowers are okay, but I would prefer a sweet treat in keeping with National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chip cookies would be awesome, but not if they're being offered by a creepily-smiling Daria.

Just save the smiles for home, Daria, because it's International Day of Families! Not that I expect the Morgendorffers to spend much quality time together, but maybe they could at least say "hi" to each other in passing?

I see Kevin is ready to celebrate Frog Jumping Day, or perhaps Dr. Shar has veered into the truly bizarre for her surgical procedures. Either way, his new leaping skills should come in handy on the football field! Just steer clear of Brittany, because I doubt she's going to want to spend any time in the backseat of a car with a slimy frog.

Green must be the color of the day, though, because it's also Leprechaun Day. Let's hope the spirit of St. Patrick's Day has a pleasant day, and doesn't have to go chasing after any renegade holidays from Holiday Island.

Mr. O'Neill is living out his dream of never growing up just in time for the anniversary of J. M. Barrie's birth in 1860. Let's just hope for his sake that the stage hands haven't had to listen to his speeches on self-actualization, because the temptation to let him fall would be very strong.

Everybody keep thinking happy thoughts, and if yours involves finding that missing sock you've been looking for then all the better because it's Lost Sock Memorial Day! I suggest checking the arm of Jane's jacket, especially if she's been spending time in the laundry room with Bobby Bighead.

Then we can wish a happy National Teacher’s Day to all of the faculty at Lawndale High. Honestly, though, they'd rather just have higher pay, fewer demands from Ms. Li, or just some basic human dignity.

Who wants to see a salivary gland tumor at the Museum of Medical Oddities for Museum Lover's Day? I'm sure Daria does, but I don't think very many people will want to join her. Especially not Jake.

Jane, meanwhile, would prefer to celebrate Cartoonists Day by making some unflattering caricatures. We only got to see a few examples of her cartoon work on the show, but I frankly would love to see more.

In fact, it would be doubly appropriate for Jane to come up with some witty drawings because it's also World Laughter Day! Get out there and find something to make you chuckle...except for Daria, who doesn't like fun.

Daria is locked and loaded for Space Day, perhaps because outer space is the only place she can go to read in peace without idiots interrupting her. Then again, this may be her costume for the latest Alien Convention, almost guaranteed to feature Artie.

It's worth pointing out that she's wearing pants instead of a skirt, which is in direct conflict with National No Pants Day. Fortunately, both Jake and Trent are happy to celebrate this one even if she's sitting it out.

Finally, even though it's Friday it's also Sun Day! Yeah, I know. Still, the sun is a part of space, so I guess it fits. Just don't go out pantsless during daylight hours, okay?

Hickory Dickory Doc Martens

Daria's got both her goose and her book of nursery rhymes ready for Mother Goose Day, but I think most of them are common enough that she won't need to look them up. I mean, we already know she's got "Unto...buckle my shoe" on lock!

She ought to start with Jack and Jill in honor of Couple Appreciation Day, which is better than trying to appreciate any of the canon couples on Daria. Jake and Helen have their cute moments, but far more often they argue or ignore each other. Barch and O'Neill are about as dysfuntional as it gets and the less said about Brittany and Kevin, the better.

One character who never got paired off was Ms. Li, who gets a brief mention because it's School Principals' Day. I suppose her obsession with security and embezzlement might count as a kind of love affair of its own, but let's not even get into that.

The Landons are having a pleasant International Dance Day, which is impressive because as far as I've seen they normally never have a pleasant anything together. I hope that Jane gets another chance to use her art skills to decorate a school dance so that everyone can join in, although she might want to skip the Jackson Pollack theme this time.

If Tom feels like getting his boogie on, he needs to make sure the Jane-Cam is on so he has a shot at Viral Video Day! I'm sure those inmates will really appreciate his enthusiasm.

However, once the fan mail starts arriving I think Tom will regret his decision. In fact, perhaps he should take advantage of World Wish Day to wish he'd never danced on camera. Quinn can give him some pointers on closing his eyes and imagining what he wants.

It's a Good Day for Creativity!

Brittany is looking particularly statuesque for International Sculpture Day, but I think she's going to have a hard time performing with the cheerleaders from now on. Let's hope she doesn't end up at the top of the pyramid!

While Jane is a likely candidate to celebrate by sculpting, she might prefer National Day of Puppetry so that she can explore new ways that puppets make everything funnier. Except for wacky morning DJs, of course.

Daria, meanwhile, might observe Tell a Story Day by frightening her family at a campfire or putting modern twists on classic fairy tales. She could also come up with a new Melody Powers story and share it with Mrs. Blaine!

Sandi's looking absolutely fowl (get it?) for World Penguin Day, but the real problem is that she's wearing black tie to a semi-formal event. Bad news for Sandi: penguins generally mate for life, so her dating schedule is going to take a serious hit.

At least she doesn't have to worry about bad hair days, or any hair days, even on Hairstylist Appreciation Day. Let's give poor Jozu a little love for having to deal with Quinn on a regular basis, shall we?

I'm sure both Helen and Quinn will be celebrating National Telephone Day, mostly by never putting the phone down for any reason whatsoever. The age of smartphones has probably made their addiction even worse--and you probably didn't even think it was possible!

Rah, Rah, RAWR!

Brittany is daring anyone who's brave enough to just try to celebrate Slay a Dragon Day. I'd advise against it, though, because she can be vicious even when she isn't a fifty-foot-tall fire-breathing monster.

Everyone would be better off heading to the "cinema" for Movie Theatre Day instead, and you can even bring vegetables to throw at the screen if you want! If Jake is there, please tell him that "the crow flies at midnight." Or was it "the pigeons are at rest"?

On second thought, perhaps it would be safer to just stay home and enjoy World Book Day. I know that's what Daria would do, and I happen to think it's a great idea.

He Took the History Lesson Too Far

Mr. DeMartino seems to be regretting his decision to celebrate Go Fly a Kite Day, and I think he would have been better off going for a hike instead. At the very least, it would have been much better for his heart condition.

Really, he should have left the kite flying to the five-year-olds for Kindergarten Day, and Little Quinn from "Boxing Daria" would probably like a pink one. Mrs. Stoller would be ideal to supervise, since she clearly thinks anyone she meets is in a kindergarten class.

If kites are for you, then you should eschew that endeavor and undertake a dissimular enterprise in honor of Big Word Day. Might I also suggest Daria favorites "verisimilitude," "existential," and "indemnification" as options as well?

Mack's wondering if anyone wants to join him for a game on National Poker Day, and yes, jacks are wild. He's short on cash as usual at the moment, but can raise you the tender liver of a newborn babe.

On second thought, perhaps you'd be better off celebrating Poetry & The Creative Mind Day, where no livers need to be involved at all. However, if Quinn offers to share one of her poems then don't accept under any circumstances.

Honestly, at this point I think I'd rather just go give Future Daria a hand with her many cats in honor of National Cat Lady Day. Maybe I'll help her throw out those thirty-year-old newspapers while I'm at it.

The Greatest Goth on Earth

Andrea's showing off some of her hidden talents for World Circus Day, but considering how little we actually learned about her during the show I suppose most of her talents were hidden. She could recite angry poetry and tell you where the bootlaces were at PayDay but the rest was up to our imaginations.

Given how much she stayed in the background, the tuning-out theme of Blah, Blah, Blah Day might be appropriate for her. People paid less attention to her than they did to Daria, and she most likely preferred it that way.

Perhaps she'll reveal yet another talent by sleeping upside and spreading rabies in honor of Bat Appreciation Day! It would fit surprisingly well with her goth persona, so it's entirely possible.

Anyone Need a Bonus Sock?

Jane just got caught celebrating National Laundry Day, but I somehow doubt that any actual clothes got washed. Oh, Bobby Bighead, you're just irresistible!

I think Jane would be better off celebrating World Art Day, if for no other reason than she's less likely to accidentally flood anyone's house that way. Unless her latest art project is especially weird.

If the water goes high enough, she could invite Barch and O'Neill over to re-create their favorite movie scene in honor of Titanic Remembrance Day! If we're lucky, they'll both fall into the water.

Looks like the Morgendorffers' houseplant is not feeling very appreciated for International Plant Appreciation Day, but that might be because (as far as I remember) it's their only plant. Have they considered planting a memorial crutch and seeing what happens? Don't forget to take the rubber thing off the end first!

While they wait for a magic flower to sprout, they could play a nice board game in honor of Scrabble Day! Daria will most likely beat everyone handily, but bonus points if she manages to use the word "indemnification."

I Seriously Doubt They Can Harmonize At All

The three Js are clearly one J short of a quartet for Barbershop Quartet Day, but that pretty much sums that trio up mentally, doesn't it? It's just as well, though, because the last thing those boys need is to add yet another person to compete with.

Let's do a special shout-out to Jamie in particular, though, because it's National James Day and I assume that "Jamie" is short for "James." Then again, as far as Quinn is concerned it's short for Johnny, Jerome, or anything else that starts with "J."

I hope all of the Lawndale pets (seen or unseen) have a great day for National Pet Day, especially Leary and Mr. Whiskers. Jake should consider getting over his traumatic experience with the latter and visit the local animal shelter and finally get that cat he's always wanted. Nuts to you, Mad Dog!

How Many Bottles Are On the Wall?

I see that Brittany is bringing out another round for National Beer Day, but I hope she reminds Kevin that he shouldn't smash beer mugs on his head like he does beer cans. I hope Quinn won't be upset that Brittany appears to have usurped her role as Keg Queen!

Then again, perhaps Quinn is busy with Helen, celebrating Motherhood and Beauty Day! As long as they stay far, far away from any runways they should be just fine.

On the subject of modeling, today is the anniversary of both "This Year's Model" in 1997 and "I Loathe a Parade" in 2000. Technically the latter didn't have actual modeling, but the Fashion Club was sure posing a lot on their float!

Do Aliens Eat Pizza?

Artie is serving up a delicious pizza for Deep Dish Pizza Day! Being from the Midwest, I absolutely love Chicago style pizza, so I'll be participating if at all possible. (Sorry, Daria fans from New York.)

Once Artie has dropped off this order, maybe he can tell everyone about his experience with aliens, because it's First Contact Day. I'm not sure why aliens would choose to use their first contact with Earth to perform a skin transplant and press some pants, but I guess there are some mysteries beyond our understanding.

I hope that, whatever their reasons, the aliens had good moral intentions in keeping with International Day of Conscience. When in doubt, listen to the angel on your shoulder and not the devil...unless you're Daria, in which case the devil makes a compelling argument in favor of humiliating Quinn.

Mrs. Bennett is really getting into the spirit of American Circus Day, or perhaps she's decided that crazy diagrams aren't confusing enough for her students and is taking an even weirder approach to teaching economics. Either way, I suspect the classroom will be much livelier from now on.

In fact, they might as well forget about the learning and just celebrate World Party Day! If Brittany's parents are out of town then her house is an option, as long as no one minds the lack of jacuzzi.

Finally, if we get some rain (or an almost-but-not-really hurricane) then we could observe Find a Rainbow Day. Kevin's skill at creating rainbows is only matched by his ability to knock doors down with his head.
